sorry about that doch. but isn't the Cost of Living in NoCal around the same as SoCal? anyhoos, there is no way in heck i can afford to live in a place ANYWHERE in cali, but there is a possibility for us to move to HI. with that being the point, thats what makes me belive that HI (for me anyways) is more afforadable than CA.

No problem. And as bmwracer pointed out, the cost of living (I think) is relatively similar in most places, it's the cost of housing that I think it's insane.

Possibly, but I think CA just barely cheaper to live in than HI...

Regardless, neither state is a walk in the park.

Agreed. But I wouldn't mind walking around in those parks. Smile

I would think food costs in HI are pretty high in comparison to CA, since a lotta stuff has to be flown into HI.

Interstingly, King's Hawaiian has their breadmaking facility here in CA, not in HI...

Ay, there's the crux to the problem. When tourism is one of the most important sources of income, you are in a precarious position.

Personally, i wouldn't want to eat bread made in hawaii, then shipped here, it'd be stale.

I don't know how they do it, but they do ship the bread from here to Hawaii... As well as other places in the States. Smile

good jobs are in short supply, that drives down housing prices.
not to mention it's hot and in the middle of nowhere (compared to metro areas)

i really depends on where you are willing to live.. I found a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath on a 10ac lot (zoned for horses) on a slight slope for $556k just west of Mt Baldy, with the rear backed up to Angeles Natl forest.

probably would have been a 1.5 hour drive to work.

Yep, however the real estate bubble hasn't burst in Hawaii just yet. Single family home prices are still on the rise, and very steadily. Niko, if you do plan to move to Hawaii and purchase a residence, I'd suggest you come when you can.

They're still on the rise in here in CA as far as I know: someone down the block was asking $950K for their house and it sold in about two weeks... Sweat

Where are these people getting this money from???? Head Scratch

It's slowing down a bit. You don't see the double digit price raises as much.

Some friends I've talked to think that these people have taken on loans where they pay nothing but interest and nothing towards the principal, else how do they fork out the 20% on the loan? Sweat

I wonder if it's the same situation in Hawaii, i.e. do most of the people there have traditional mortgages? Head Scratch
