I thought Yumie did a good job as Yankumi. I even had the 'Fight-Oh oh' thing playing in my mind for a while. But Jun just makes the whole series worth watching! Over and over again! He really did a good job as Sawada Shin. He was a very crucial factor in the success of Gokusen.

Only from a ratings standpoint. He was eye candy for the female audience.

Yukie made the show work and made it go.

To capriciously dismiss the excellent portrayal of Sawada Shin by Matsumoto Jun is to do him a serious disservice. Though he is stunning to look at, he is not merely eye candy.

From a storyline perspective, the burgeoning relationship between Yankumi and her students, particularly Sawada Shin, made the story captivating. The growth of her students in trust and compassion was a key element in the theme of the story. Sawada was a focal point of that metamorphosis. Sawada's initial rage and cynical distrust grew into a tentative beginning of trust, then into a shy caring about Yankumi (which he tried to hide), and finally into an overt admission of some semblance of romantic feeling towards her. Matsumoto Jun portrayed all of these emotional nuances believably and compellingly.

Nakama Yukie did an excellent job, but she was not operating in a vacuum. It was the dynamic interplay between the other actors, especially Matsumoto Jun, and her that made the story fascinating and memorable.

Thank you.

I was wondering if anyone out there was going to provide some palatable evidence as to Matsumoto's significance in Gokusen other than "he looks so good...!" or "he's a cutie!" bleh

Granted, I'll always have reservations as to how calculated it was to pick him over some other non-jpop artiste to play Sawada, but he did a pretty good job in a role that was predictable from the get-go.

Actually, the entire school/bad student plotline for Gokusen was predictable. Interesting, but predictable.

evidence of jun's significance?
easy... g2 sucks even with nakie.
and the 2 scripts are similar.
so why g1 was better?

and i can understand you not liking him, coz you're a guy... right?

just like i don't really like nakie. she overacts even in her 'overacting' sometimes...

ok, gotta get out of the house now...

That's not evidence. That's timing.

Blame the scriptwriter or the ill-conceived idea to make G2.

That would be Koide Keisuke:

I think this is a pic of him

He was also in something called "Lind Linda Linda" And he's in Waterboys 2005 Special. I don't really think he sticks out among the others..

PS: Does anyone have the song that Kamenashi sings in the drama, I kind of grown attached to it... Sweat

Wow, that was fast, thanks, and Lind Linda Linda is either a movie, or TV show he did, not sure it was in his profile in junon Magazine...

BTW, why is Kame's song have him speaking? is this a recording, or just something in the song??? The song doesn't sound like the version he sings in the drama...

Thanx, I like this one, even though its a concert, it's still good because I like this version...^-^

I'm kind of hoping that ther isn't a third season, I can't picture Kusano being the next leader of the gang...

I dont mind seeing Kusano being a gang leader or something.. I find it somewhat cool.. But, if he is to act a drama...i hope it's a new fresh drama.. However, if he really do act in Gokusen 3.. i'll definitely watch for the sake of Kusano.. Usually, sequel dramas are kind of a let down.. Sweat

IF it happens, then I probably will see it to see how his acting is, and who are his gang members...
