Popular kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro (59) is taking an extended break to undergo treatment for leukemia. He was first diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in May 2004, and he had treatment which was thought to have been successful. He made his comeback for a performance in Paris last October with his son, the current Ichikawa Ebizo (27). He and his son toured around Japan in June in celebration of the younger actor's succession to the Ebizo name. The reoccurence of the disease was discovered during a regular checkup this month.

I hope this time the treatment will work and Danjuro san will be back to the stage soon. And I hope his family will have strength to overcome this terrible moment.

Well, the second one is good: Ebizo will be on the big screen for the first time soon. Victory! Peace!

The movie, called "Deguchi No Nai Umi" (or "The sea with no exit"), will be on Theaters in the next year's summer. The screenplay was written by Yamada Yoji (director of "Tasogare Seibei"). Ebizo will play the lead character.

Hi guys!! Found this thread and am telling you that I am soooo thrilled as I looove this guy!!! Thanks a millions for the great pics!! Enjoying all them all. He surely has really nice smile I know a bit that he's a famous Kabuki actor. Never see kabuki Wish could see him...hhh (sigh) What's the lattest news on him?
