to me, a person who mostly grew up exposed to western culture, jdramas just feel more comtemporary, closer to ideas that i can relate to. kdramas are so gratuitously sentimental, so dramatic sometimes that its laughable. not to sound condescending, but there's such a naivety about kdramas, it feels like they're from a simpler, less sophisticated time.

I hate Kdramas....all of them have almost the same storyline and the storywriters seem to think a perfect love story means one of the characters has to die in the end....it's so stereotypical and draggy.... I've watched Kdramas and I haven't cried at any of those so-called "touching" scenes...It seems after watching Jdramas, I'm immune to their storylines...Jdramas are much more subtle and their storylines often have a deeper meaning I can relate to
Well, Jdramas rules...no doubt abt that Yeah

have you ever seen Dae Jang Guem, Hae Shin, All In, Samsoon, or anything like that??

Please dont be shallow after watching 1 drama and most dramas these days in Korea don't have a lot of death and the storylines in Korean dramas are much much better.

I like Jdramas to but Jdramas are a lot like anime to me. No really deep plot or emotion.

But I might not be right since I haven't seen every Japanese drama

Dont say all Korean dramas suck untill you watch a few
People just dont happen to like Korean dramas the best for no reason

Edit
====
And btw I don't really get the point of this thread since it is a Japanese drama forum and a lot of people will be biased

ieee... what a question.

i'd say there are good and bad in both. if you want a good kdrama to watch, try 'i'm sorry i love you'.

I found GTO, Kinpachi Sensei, Summer Snow, and Shotgun Marriage to have some deep plot with lots of emotions involved. Try giving these dramas a try Victory! Peace!

hmm....good question. I think everyone is a bit biase though, even me, but when it comes to dramas, I just watch it to enjoy it. If i can't find any enjoyment in that one particular drama then its not good, simple as that.

I need to try Kdrama again. Didn't get to finish All-in and Sweet 18. Sweet 18 seems ok though, but All-in looks awesome just after watching the First Ep Mr Green

well for me I much prefer jdrama over kdrama. i guess its becuase of my general impression of them being weepie stories and all. I did catch some of those that deviate from the more popular romance drama (damn cant rem their name, think one was where Lee Ji-Hyeon in a family drama) e.g. family, gambling. But overall i feel k-dramas are pretty draggy.

I guess what I like about jdrama is the focus they give on a particular subject without unneccessay frills and extras so you tend to have a much intense experience with them.

choose a drama for its storyline (or artistic value), not where it orginates from.

Guess thats another reason why I liked it hehe
Kinpachi Sensei is more serious about the schooling and the trouble that goes on in the student's life.

Summer Snow is a romance type and same with Shotgun Marriage....I thought both was viewable for any age Mr Green

I'd thought I recommend these for you if you haven't seen them. I hope you find some good Jdoramas to watch Mr Green

I watched a few kdramas, with the exception of that cooking for the king show (everyone loves it, i couldn't get into it; i just couldn't bring myself to enjoy shows that aren't happening in the same era as I am in -english, korean or japanese)...most of them involves some type of weirdo love relationship among 3 people or more, and then when they finaly sorta get together, one of them will have cancer. And he/she (mostly she) will die at the end....

Again, I'm biased, but another joy of watching jdorama is that I'm learning Japanese, and it feels good when I can pick up phrases/words here and there while watching jdoramas!! I have absolutely no interest in learning korea though....

of course is JAPAN DRAMAS.
they are so damn good.
compare to korean ones, they are much much better.
for me, i just can't stand korea dramas.
it always the starting and the end is good
the middle part is . . .
and worst, 7/10 is sad ending.

I prefer Japanese dramas, too, but 咷 was a fantastic show. And I do recognize the occasional Japanese cognate when watching Korean dramas.

i find that k-dramas are more soppy and always ends up in cancer or something...and drags to much...but! i think their movies are okay

to be honest i haven't watched a j-drama, but i've watched japanese movies, but the thing with the japanese movies i tend to see, are the ones with a lot of sexual intercourse, but they end up good anyway...
but i would chose japanese stuff over korean movies/dramas because k-d's are tooooo dramatic for me and like someone said before j-d/m's are straight forward

and japans dont' always film sappy stuff

Honestly, I haven't seen much K-dramas. They tend to take a long time to end, and usually the storyline just drags. I remember hearing so much about Stairway to Heaven, but after watching the first episode, I was thrown off. It wasn't as good as everyone said it was. Now, I'm not saying that every K-drama is bad. I happen to be in love with the drama series 'My Name is Kim Sam Soon'. It is absolutely hilarious.

I prefer J-doramas because they're much faster and they have a greater appealing storyline, in my opinion. Not too mention the fact that they have great looking casts.
