I agree that the leading actress in LV is damn irritating, and that sort of spoils the flavour of the show. Very important to like the cast in order to like the show too, don't you think? I think LV is not bad but somehow I can't feel as strongly as so many people do, I don't love it, just neutral. Kimura so damn scrawny in the show. I think LV is the pioneer of dorama whereby yougner guys fall for older women? Thereafter, alot of similar dramas... overtime, majo no jouken, brand etc
I think S.O.S has very meaningful and interesting dialogues though storyline is nothing extraordinary. S.O.S will probably appeal more to audience who likes conversations that leave you thinking, don't mind slow development of the characters & plot in order for you to "savour it". More thought-provoking than LV.
If you like easy-to-understand story with some humour, LV is better.
I just finished watching the 1994 series Sweet Home, and I have to say, it's one of the best dorama I have seen. It's an excellent satire on Japanese society with the primary focus on the neurotic obsession by parents to get their children into elite schools--in this case, we're talking about elementary school! Other aspects of Japanese family life and society are also examined here, often hilariously, sometimes poignantly--the stigma of being an unmarried 30-year old woman; conflicts with the in-laws; the pressures of being a salaryman; marital infidelity; the traditional roles of husbands and wives--the list goes on and on, and those familiar with Japanese society will recognize many of its aspects being skewered in this series. The show is replete with veteran character actors who all do a good job. The three principal child actors also should be complimented because they do more than just stand around looking cute. However, two performances really stand out. Yoko Nogiwa is absolutely great as the intimidating cram school teacher. She is a perfectionist when it comes to getting her kindergarten-age students to do things right, and she positively terrifies their parents. The scenes where she eviscerates the mothers for every little mistake are so funny. And then there is Tomoko Yamaguchi. I know this may sound sacrilegious to those hordes of LV fans, but I enjoyed her performance more in this series than in Long Vacation; in fact, I like Sweet Home more than LV. Anyway, Yamaguchi is incredible in the role of one of those obsessive mothers who will do almost anything to get her five year-old son into an elite school. This series showcases her comedic talents (I can't think of another dorama actress who is better at comedy than she is) and her dramatic, heartfelt scenes are wonderful as well. In watching her in different series, I have noticed there is an aggressiveness and physicality to her acting that makes her stand out from the rest of the dorama actresses. And in her case, these qualities just seem to make her even more endearing to the audience. Gosh, after a long layoff, I hope she will find series that will do justice to her huge talents. Anyway, I really think a lot of this series. Also, the screenwriter--Yumie Nishiogi--should also receive a lot of credit for writing such an entertaining satire.

Akasaka Hiker, 'Love Generation' is very good, both Kimura Takuya & Matsu Takako did great job! It worth watching to know how the development of relationship between man and woman going on.
Hi, new member to these forums, I was wondering if I could get some recommendations.
I havn't really watched many Jdramas but I have watched Gokusen and Densha Otoko and enjoyed both, I intensely disliked GTO ( probably because I loved the anime so much ).
