The wife will be going back home around March 2006. I'll be joining her around June 2006 till July 2006.
I wish I could stay longer however, I gotta get my ass back to Oahu and make some money. _________________

A true country of dichotomies. Can't wait to experience it again.
Aaah yes the Family Mart fried chicken...Yummy!!!! There were some striking dichotomies that stood out for me during my various stays at my head temple. Just my observations of a few that struck me were.....There are many small plain shops near the temple grounds that sell Buddhist accessories. One shop that I had passed quite a few times had lovely lace curtains in their small glass windows turned out to be an old fashioned ice cream parlor/coffee shop/sandwich shop complete with counter stools and all. The first time I walked into it, it caught me by surprise. Also while on the temple grounds I am used to seeing many priests in their pale gray robes with white surplices and their shaved heads. Eventhough the temple grounds are hugh most people walk everywhere on the cobblestone paths. Occasionally I would see someone ride by on a motor scooter wearing a jogging suit going from one temple to the next. It was only when they took off their helmets did I realize that the different men on motor scooters were student priests. Also I am still impressed with the vending machines that sell both hot and cold beverages in the same machine. While on the temple grounds we have hot green tea that we prepare ourselves, but just in case we need a coffee or hot chocolate or a cold beverage fix, there is a vending machine tucked discreetly off to the side of the lobby on the main floor. There is natural blending of the old and the new all over Japan.

i found this photo on the web...i think it's awesomely good
it juxtaposes the stillness of tradition with the fast paced motion of modernity....
Great pic Tu. Thanks. It reminds me of the time I got a chance to go to an annual summer festival in Japan. It was at night. All the teenage girls were dressed in kimonos and the young men were dressed like rappers. Sorry I didn't have a camera on me at the time.
for those who are curious to check out my weblog of my japan trip from last May 2005, I just updated it today...with more pix.
even more pix post of my trip to follow laters.

Yes, I know. I NEVER go to Japan during the summer, however this will be the only exception that I will make. I have to help her bring the kids back to Oahu.
Going to Japan during winter is a different story and my favorite time of year to go.

I'm looking forward to being alone for 2 months.
I know she's banking on going home too. She's homesick and it would be good for her to go and visit her family without me. _________________

For all those who want to remember what it sounded like to be at the train/subway station, here is a website that captured those melodic tones. Ahhh, it's like waiting for the Yamanote train to arrive... iӂBj (Be careful. ... commonly heard in the station announcements)

Only thing is that you can't smell the alcohol stench from that link, like the stench in trains that run at night there. And that's a good thing. I can't stand alcohol from someone else, but from myself, it's ALL GOOD! _________________

When I somehow develop smell-ernet technology, this will be one of the first things I use it for.
