Yup. "Egao no Hosoku". ("Always Smiling") Well, like I said the last time they announced they'd show this series... it's a sweet little show.
Nothing very memorable about it other than it's star, Yuko Takeuchi. (Watching this show made me want to go out and find other series she'd been in.) But I enjoyed it a whole lot more than series like "Fresh Breeze" and "Officer Ichiro". It's a step up in class.
I'm very pleased about this because it gives me the chance to get a nicer copy of the show. _________________

"Egao..." looks cute enough, if super over-acted. Man, I'm sad we might not be seeing too many nice shots of kaiseki ryori though! Haha... I wonder where they filmed this? It's a gorgeous building, so I figure it might be a real ryokan. Izu-Nagaoka, where it's set, is a famous hot-springs/ryokan area. _________________

Just in the world of wierd cable connections, KTSF is coming in grainier than hell for me right now. I don't know why. I just blame it on Comcast and move on.
It annoyed me no end the other night when I was taping "Egao no Hosoku".
Anyway... if anyone else is having a similar problem, ap clearly has a better connection, and is uploading a very nice copy of the first episode on D-Addicts. _________________

Let me know where that kanji is. I'll try to decipher it when I'm not distracted.

Dochira: It looks like the caption on the original photo is nothing more than the picture size and format. So, how the author came to take this snapshot will have to remain a mystery for now.

Thanks. I'm just curious where that photo was taken. Can't make out anything from the background.

My guess is that Miss Yuko was snapped during a location shoot where schedules are tight and conditions are often improvised but quite convivial. (As an actor, I remember having to change pants between two parked cars one busy evening on Fillmore Street.)
Some posts back, there was mention of bad reception of KTSF's broadcast signal in the Sunset District in San Francisco. It turns out that KTSF is not broadcasting its signal from the Sutro tower but from the San Bruno mountains, which means that there are pockets of weak reception, particularly in areas at the bottom of northern slopes, such as parts of the Sunset District or Pacific Heights. One solution is to get a good rabbit antena and turn it southward (where the San Bruno moutains are). Another solution is to walk your dog further up the hill and befriend the locals, and then ring their doorbell on Saturday night with a cake in your hand.

Can someone tell me the times for Kouhaku on New Year's Eve? I keep blinking and missing it. Rrrgh.(Edit: Got it. It's on 3:30-6, 8-10:30)
I have a prior engagement on NYE. I'm trying to find out if one of my friends who has cable/clear reception will record it for me, as I plan to show it on New Year's Day to my friends. I don't suppose anyone here is willing to do that? I could trade blank tapes, and a pie or something. You'd have to let me pick it up NYD, so I don't suppose anyone could, but can't hurt to try. _________________
