Comic Alley CDs might be expensive, but not as expensive as the original. Gundam Seed OSTs could go as high as P 700 (converted price) in Japan.
yeah it was a big gamble for them yet its much more worth of my time to see than PBB... tho ive seen this already even before they air it on 7 cause they've been showing it on BS2 before so yeah.. ^^;
well yeah its not as expensive as the original CDs.. but kung gagastos na lang din ako ng ganun i would have bought the original one than the bootleg.. siyensya na if im like this cause i have vainess upon buying CDs.. [^^;] cause its one of my cherished collections... and i know CDs are terribly expensive but its much worth it if you buy the original one rather than bootlegs... anyways for me, i think P700 for a Gundam Seed OST isnt really a bad deal na...
with Japan, living there is really expensive... but prolly depends on the stores and places na lang kung saan ang mas mababa... and i think in every country naman eh there's always a THRIFT store... _________________

Japanese entertainment in the Philippines suffers from marginalization. From TV stations airing anime or dorama to, understandably a surprising lack of commercial establishments catering to this niche. I'm surprised since there's obviously money here, with 2rats, Comic Alley and the whole gamut of anonymous sellers in Greenhills and the net. Then again, maybe it's only me... _________________

That's one of the common denominator of every country

I think we'll have to wait in a long while before we can watch jdoramas on local channels again. As far as I can see, QTV-11 is our only hope. My hopes of watching jdoramas in GMA and ABS-CBN is beginning to fade .

Hmm.....in my opinion, I think jdoramas is the only part of the Japanese entertainment that suffers here . Animes made a big impact in this country. I remember back in 2000 when anime was taking the country by storm when GMA's animes were beating the ratings of those teledramas from ABS-CBN in primetime . And I don't consider jpop belonging to the underground scene here anymore. You can see music videos of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Gackt, X Japan, Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki and even some JE boys in those chat-thru-text channels in cable. As for the movies, well, little by little the Japanese movies (especially those horror flicks) are making its way to the box office. So, I believe that jdoramas are the missing part of Japanese entertainment here. _________________

yeah. i was kinda cringing before coz i was expecting them to make a reality show too. good thing they have sense and pride (i've always believed they make the innovations, unlike abs... ooops... sorry if there's any abs fan here). anyway, based on ratings, jewel has been doing better, although pbb and the pinoy ako theme seem to be everywhere.
i was really excited when i saw gokusen being promoted on gma. (well actually i had a dilemma since i want other people to get hooked on jdo, but the other part of me don't want them to because then they'd get obsessed and then my fave jdo actors might become jologs.... and don't even get me started on the dubbing... haha... so mean of me... but in the end, i wanted other people to see)
i was really disappointed when they didn't push through with it. i'm still hoping they will, but not so much anymore.(like what happened with zaizai's mars). i think they're still trying to feed us with what they think we'll like, which is more knovelas and reality shows. anyway, let's just keep our fingers crossed. _________________

i had seen 'Friends' broadcasted here when i was going to manila. what the hell is wrong? why do they have to change the names of the korean characters and not the japanese?
those tv networks are just making their 'masa viewers' more dumb!
in some countries like Malaysia, jdramas are shown with subtitles not dubbed.
i'll add this up:
if they show jdorama here in the Philippines, can they show and dub it without changing their names? i think it is very obvious that very few japanese people have english names.
it those tv networks do the same things as in kdramas then it suck!

Uhm......if you saw my post in the previous page, I did answer a question about keeping the original names of the characters and even the theme song of the jdoramas that was showed here . _________________

Im sorry but i am totally lost and possibly disappointed ... these stations still plan on airing Gokusen and other jdoramas in the PI? and if they are does anybody know if they'll be subbed or dubbed?
and i was also wondering...anybody notice PI loves to import foreign dramas but not export their own. i mean PI dramas may not be that creative but still...anybody know?

of course it would be dubbed... they always dub it...
well for one, if im not mistaken, i know that "Pangako Sa'yo" was shown on Malaysia and Indonesia on a non-TFC channel... anyways with your question, i dont know as well... prolly they would want overseas viewers to subscribe on their respective overseas channels just to view it... and another presumption would be nobody wants to air it overseas cause the market isn't really that big unlike these overseas dramas... but i will tell that some of our own teleseryes are nice... especially the earlier ones like Mula sa Puso, Pangako Sa'yo and some others that I cant as of now remember.. ^^; cause right now, i will tell you that some are really jologs... oh yeah... _________________

Yup, you hit the target . And yeah, Joe Odagiri did a good job on portraying Saito Hajime in that taiga dorama . By the way, I saw Odagiri and a woman in an interview last night on Jet TV. Looks like they are promoting a new project but I don't know if it's a dorama or a movie .
u got jet tv? who is ur cable operator? coz mine is sun cable and we used to have nhk, bs1 bs2 n wowow, but now only nhk left.... am planning to change cable operator but seems we dont have much choices, if u got jet tv that's great neh, at least jet tv are japanese dub and chinese sub right? and those chinese station sucks... they are on their korean wave too... the only jdrama i saw now is 24hrs emergency ward.... but chinese dubbed. Joe Odagiri i think was in a new drama series that have started last jan 13 if i am not mistaken.

Yup, they dub it in Tagalog. They did that in Golden Bowl and Heaven's Coins. The translation and timing is good but some of the voices really suck . The good thing is that they keep the original names of the characters and the theme song . But like you have said, for us who have been watching jdoramas for a long time, we prefer watching them with subs.
but u know, if given choices, i prefer tagalog dub over english even in anime.... but again..... even if they want to dub drama into tagalog, can they find another set of seiyu??? am sick and tired of hearing the same voice over and over again for almost all animes n dubbed drama series whatever their original languages are!!!! whoa... i think i better make this complain in both gma n abscbn and maybe abc5 [/quote] _________________

I miss cable back in the Philippines.. I used to have the same too.. NHK, BS1 BS2 and Wowow.. grrrrr. I remember.. watching boys side and girls side way back when...
Manny mania has gripped the entire country these days
Yeah, but the recent coup d'etat talks is taking away the limelight from Manny . Incidentally, when the Oakwood mutiny happened back in 2003, Manny Pacquiao also won a big match and his victory was not noticed because of all the gimmick that the Magdalo boys are doing . Luckily, this time around, Manny's victory was celebrated.

My cable operator is Global Destiny cable. This cable also have NHK, Wowow, BS1 and Jet TV (it replaced Nippon TV last year ). But Destiny cable implemented this so-called premium account and some channels (including Wowow, BS1 and Jet TV and some other channels like LS Mandarin, ETTV movies, NBA league pass, and Zee tv) were only available for those who subscribed using this kind of account. Meaning, NHK is the only Japanese channel available for those using the ordinary account . Good thing we are using the premium account

In animes, dubbing is fine. I like the voice of the one who dubbed for Hanamichi Sakuragi in the Slam Dunk anime. The voice really fits Sakuragi's personality . But for the dramas, well, I still prefer subs _________________

on the contrary, Jewel did rate higher than PBB (you can ask AGB or AC Nielsen and ask for info) i think the average is 28 for Jewel against PBB's 20 or so. BUT ABS is so good in hyping their programs. their shows create more noise, everyone knows their shows but it doesn't really translate to viewership. Thanks to their marketing geniuses (CCM yata, who btw is headed by a Robert Labayen, a former ad agency hotshot) their programs are popular. Me and my friends talk about PBB a lot, especially when it was still airing, but I was the only one who really watches the series.
Regarding JDramas, I think they haven't started showing it because it's hard to schedule these dramas. Jdramas are relatively short, (10-12 eps only) while Koreanovelas/chinovelas run long. Jdramas might only run for about 4 weeks at the most. Other longer running dramas will take months, which is easier to program (schedule the programming). But I think when they start showing Jdramas...tuloy-tuloy na yan. Kasi they'd arrange the schedule of dramas one after another.
I don't think SOS will be aired because of it's theme. Really, incest doesn't sit well in a conservative's stomach.
Patalastas lang: ang Mars ipapalabas na finally sa QTV mukang malapit na ring mag make ng appearance ang Gokusen
We do export our telenovelas, e.g. pangako and mula sa puso (kristine and diet are relatively popular in malaysia). We have to love our own before we sell it. Kung wala tayong bilib sa sarili nating produkto sa palagay niyo may magtitiwalang bumili nun?
Hyaku-en shops are the best! That's where I buy souvenirs, pasalubongs when I go back home. ( ahhh such a cheapskate!) _________________

Hmm mixed ang aking emotions sa Mars. Personally, na enjoy ko talaga siya.. it was dark and far from the cutesy plotline of Meteor Garden.
Mula sa Puso with Claudine and Rico? that was like.. ages ago ha! tas.. wait.. tama ba ko na yung pangako sa yo.. was that the one with jean garcia and eula valdez?

I hope what you have said about jdoramas are true, especially the 'tuloy-tuloy na yan' part. I think that local stations have prematurely bought jdoramas but haven't really figured out how they would fit in their programming. Filipinos are used to seeing a 3 month to 2 year dramas, not a 11 or 12 episode series. For those who have missed two or three episodes, there is so much ground to cover. And for those who have been glued to the series, it would be over in just a couple of weeks (assuming TV stations air it everyday).
But what makes it bad for jdorama lovers is that they tease you with plugs and then suddenly pull the series out. Like Gokusen. Makes you wonder if they really took stock of what they bought.
I told my friend to visit one hyaku-en store near his hotel. He came back to me to say that it aint really a hyaku en store, actually you pay hyaku juu en for everything. Oh well, I never noticed that my earlier purchases had consumption tax. _________________

True. True. They're probably having problems regarding the schedules of these dramas. Maybe I should just work in ABS or GMA so I can do something about it.
Riiiiiight! I didn't notice the tax as well. But still, hyaku ju-en is still cheap.
Try searching for kristine hermosa in thai, indonesian or malaysian sites/forums.
