Instant noodle is bad. They pre-cook it by frying them. I use to eat it once everyday, very bad. Just can't resist them. Now I cut down, about once a week.
ahochaude: I also like to put in a raw egg right after the ramen is done. But I stir it into the soup, that gives the ramen a kind of texture.
I traveled all the way down to San Diego to eat at Todai. I dont think there is one in Riverside. Not too many asians in Riverside compaired to other cities now that I think about it.
Wow, that's a ways to go for Japanese food... I have afriend who drives from Arcadia to Torrance to get sushi from this place I introduced him to... Good stuff. And a cute waitress (the owner's daughter) on the weekends...

Another good thing about miso stock is that you mix it with JPN molasses and then you'll have what Okinawans called: abura-miso, a paste you can scoop and mix it with your medium-grain rice. It kind of has a strong taste, but nowhere as pungent as natto. abura-miso is the BEAST!!! Would you know anything about it, aho? _________________

Yeah, I ate it before. It's good.
But Andagi is my favorite!!!!!
Every New Years, Grandma makes it along with the Ozoni shiru and mochi! We also get to eat it whenever we go to Okinawan Matsuri in Hawaii. Can't ever get sick of andagi!

There are ramen houses in J-town but LA is about an hour away from me so I can only get a bowl of Mahbo every once and again. Buuuut I live next to Westminster so I can have Pho whenever I want! YAY PHO!
If you like ramen and movies, you should check out the movie Tampopo by Itami Juzo... Excellent movie.
Watched a few of this director's movies for a paper on J-culture during college days... but I never really understood Tampopo. Maybe there's too much parodies in it and I just don't get it... Am still clueless today...

Actually, you may find this funny but I don't know when the festivals are. My father's auntie is a real "Okinawan-activist". She helped to coordinate the past festival. Which was supposedly "BIG" with people from the mainland coming down and all. (I think Sept this year ???) So usually I find out the info. from her. They also broadcast it on the Japanese network here in Hawaii (Kiku TV Channel 9). When you come down to Hawaii, PM me before you do, and I'll let you know if I know/find out anything.
