I don't get it. Big shocking news story here: she's 22 and have a boyfriend. Like possilby more than half the girls of that age. Maybe it's because the guy isn't that cute.
At least she's not pregnant.

I think that's the crux of the matter. They like their idols to be virginal shojo, so at first hint she is a woman, out she goes.

concerning j-pop:

concerning girlfriend size: I've got one since 1998, she's only
4 feet 9 inches (1,50 mtr in metric units). Nearly mari's size I suppose.
Ok.. much people consider her far too young, while she's already 30.
god thanks she's not used to buy or drink alcoholics or beer, so she
is not often asked for her personal id-card ;-).
Sometimes this happens when entering a bar or a disco of course
and the doorkeepers mostly make eyes then.

Special conc. mari: She's a very cute person, I hope also a very polite
one, and she really is tight-packed with fire and energy. I love her
for her eyes which are looking just like those of these anime cartoon
girls, big and sweet. She deserves unnumbered lots of kisses.

hmm.. actually i guess it's some kind unwritten-code-of-honor for young idols in jap to stay single during their career. i guess they can date ppl, but they have to do it secretly. so when their relationships come out in the open, they either deny it like their lives depend on it, or they can admit it but risk their careers instead (like wat mari did). i think mari was really brave about her decision. most jap idols i know deny their relationships.

and it's not tat her bf is not presentable or anything her bf is in fact oguri shun, a really cute up-and-rising actor. fortunately, his career was not at risk coz he's a full-time actor, not attached to any idol companies like johnny's jr or something.

P.S.: btw, one interesting fact is tat oguri shun is 182cm tall.

not really unwritten code, but more like the PERCEPTION of being single. If an a popular artist (doesn't matter who) is single, that adds to the appeal to the opposite sex, thus more marketable (sell more records, attract more audience to the movies, etc.)

Why do you think that the JPN press can't wait for (it may/may not happen) a divorce to happen to KimuTaku and Kudo Shizuka? So they can market the newly single (meaning, albeit slight chance of availability) Kimura to the female mass. If that do happen, KimuTaku can stand to be more popular (and make more money to his company). Sorry to take this off-topic...

IMHO, I don't really care if a girl as a boyfriend or not. Maybe a little for bikini idols, but I don't really care about them anyway.

Still, I found it kind of funny Mari's boyfriend grew up a lot this year. He's almost twice as tall as her. In the end, not being in Morning Musume might have been something great for her career. At least she still can work. She's currently in Sentou no musume. A 47 episodes drama (30 minutes episodes). I didn't watch it, but I'm currious to know how good is it.

I love the both Mari and Shun, I stand at an even 5' and Mari is about as tall as my mom. Anyway, yes Shun is very tall, for those of you who havent seen them both

This is my favorite and only picture I've seen of them as you can tell by the way Shun is bending down, he is very tall, even though she's kinda bending a bit too. but yeah cute couple and cute kareshi

I recently caught up the news (staged from 10 June 2006) that MARI
YAGUCHI is no longer affiliated with Mr. Oguri. It is reported that
he obviously has found a new girlfriend - said to be a photomodel and 20 cm taller like Mari.
This news was reportedly leading the Enterntainment news in Japan
during the last week(s).
