Chuushingura 1/47

good recommendation, Geez...entertaining although not the best adaptation of the tale of the 47 ronin. Oishi Kuranosuke's character was made too ambivalent.

eri fukatsu though had an incredible fresh-faced radiance. gorgeous.

Finished Tokyo Friends. Such a cute drama. I love Ai Otsuka. She's adorable. Now I'm waiting in anticipation for the movie to come out.

Started on Say You Love Me. It reminds me of Orange Days, with the whole sign language thing.

Glad you liked it. I agree, it wasn't the best adaptation of the story, but then I didn't expect it to be. Going in, I knew it was a TV movie, and I guess American made for TV movies have lowered my expectations.

As to Kuranosuke's ambivalence... I found it lacking as well. But I wondered if his attitude, his 2 year plan, wasn't so taken for granted in Japan that they didn't see any point in focusing on him. This thing's story was focused on 1 of the 47. Kimura's character. This was his story within the story.

As to Eri... well Eri is Eri. In everything she does, it's clear that she's got IT!

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it.

I've been sticking with the light and fluffy, bright and cheerful, little series lately.

Remote. (Not as bad as you'd think. Probably helped by the fact that I only get to watch one episode per month.)

Jikou Keisatsu. (Way more fun than I'd expected.)

Anego. (A good solid series. Ryoko Shinohara doesn't get half the credit she deserves.)

And since I'm tired of watching soft subbed shows one episode at a time... I just started "Style". Another light fluffy, romantic comedy. It is what it is. Nothing earth shattering. But fun. And it's got a great cast.

Poor Nao, I feel sorry for her. Puppy Dog Eyes How can a teacher do something like this?! But Mayu's father isn't better either. I hate him! How can somebody do something like that with his own daughter?! I't disgusting!

Yuck. bleh I watched the 2003(?) version with Aya Ueto. I don't remember seeing any incest in this version. I hate those kind of drama. bleh

thanks again...yes i agree with your assessment on that score. for a television film it was entertaining and pleasantly engaging despite it's length.

indeed the story is, as you aptly pointed out, largely the story of one man...a microcosmic view, nonetheless i think we both agree that Kuranosuke's characte seemed a bit off, at least vis-a-vis other artistic intepretations of this tale that has acceded to Japanese legend....

i am deeply impressed by her acting and work...i haven't seen it all but in what i have seen i haven't been anything less than enthusiastic about her ability to act....and she looks fantastic in kimono.

thanks again for the recommendation.

I didn't get that one. I still have one about Hiroshima with Kato Ai and Matsu Takako. It looks good. I don't know why it wasn't release in the theater. The production must've cost a lot...

it was entertaining and had a number of celeberities in it..kimura takuya, eri fukatsu, matsu takako, satoshi tsumabuki, etc.

i don't really watch very many jidaigeki pieces so it was refreshing change of pace for me.

Nice. I don't really watch samurai shows. They are too long and I don't have the money to either buy them or dl them. I enjoy a movie from time to time though. The last ronin stuff I've seen was with Robert De Niro and Jean Reno. I guess that doesn't count. Nut

the best thing about that movie was the car chase scenes....they actually used F1 drivers for those sequences...

The first one I watched in full was Nobuta wo Produce, followed by Hana Yori Dango (JP) ... I spent my entire weekend watching Meteor Garden 1&2, but that's not Japanese. xD I started up on Summer Snow, but didn't finish it. Most recently, I watched Gokusen. I started Gokusen 2, but it was silly in how similar it was to the first one so I lost interest. I'd start watching GTO, but I'll get bored of the concept soon enough so I decided to clense my pallete with Manhattan Love Story.
