Thanks.
BTW, In my dictionary okonomi means choice. I don't have yaki, but the kanji alone means bake or buring and yaku means to grill. So, I guess okonomiyaki makes sense.
6 of us ate okonomiyaki (and yakisoba) this weekend...it was a gluttony.

refresh my memory...i apologize because i know you mentioned them previously...
so did you finally go to the shinsengumi ramen joint? i'm curious...because i remember reporting here that i went once and i didn't think it was as good as daikoukuya.

Never tried okonomiyaki.
290 yen for udon in a restaurant...
WOW that's cheap. japanese food can be so affordable at times and so extravagantly expensive...the difference as compared to here is i'm sure some of the really cheap stuff tastes good

i haven't eaten at daikoukuya in a while, i can't compare directly... though i have to admit that the shinsengumi in rosemead isn't as good as the redondo beach location... even though one of the cooks came from there..
i guess its more that there are 2 big name shops, not that they're especially good..

i see, i see....so you DID finally try it....interesting to hear that your seasoned palette agrees with me....the rosemead location didn't really strike me as great.

yeah, finally went with a buddy of mine, we got there at 5:30 and realized that they didn't open til 6pm, we stood outside watching them bow to each other for 30 minutes.. chatted with one of the servers while he was having a smoke outside... talked a little with the overly peppy hostess/waitress.

that's the feeling i got when i was in Japan, eating at affordable places, yet some were so expensive too...
