this had to have sucked

Yamanote Line trains in chaos after construction work warps tracks

Passengers walk along the tracks to JR Takadanobaba Station after being let out of a train that stopped on the JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo's Shinjuku-ku on Monday. Thousands of train passengers in Tokyo were forced to walk over tracks to a station after becoming stranded when a driver reported unusual sounds and officials decided to halt all trains on the Yamanote Line to carry out inspections.

Railway officials said the driver of a train traveling between Takadanobaba and Shinokubo stations on the Shonan Shinjuku Line phoned the Tokyo general direction center at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, saying an unusual sound had been detected while the train was running.

The area where the problem was reported was about 600 meters south of Takadanobaba Station. A train on the Yamanote Line that was traveling nearby was halted, leaving about two thousand passengers stranded inside. About one hour later, passengers were let out of the train onto the tracks, and railway workers led them on foot to Takadanobaba Station. (Mainichi)

you might want to PM, kenjilina, a user on this message board...he's from the United Kingdom as well and will be departing for Japan next month I believe...he might be able to give you some realistic and useful information regarding your question.

Almost a year after the speeding train slammed into a building.

very unfortunate...in both cases...when i went...as dochira alluded to in another thread...you could set your watch to the train...the dayem thing was exactly on schedule every time i used it.

if you watch the Tokyo Revealed documentary, which i believe you have, it says that during rush hour, at Shinjuku Station, a train arrives every minute or something crazy like that?!?!
