that is a handy and useful map/atlas, for reals yo, i got lost and even walked right pass the anime-shops-building that my friend and i were looking forward. I had to break out my gaijin-pronounciation of limited japanese phrases to ask for directions, a lot, yeah, even with the map. I have a feeling the next time, i might have a better idea, but probably will still get a lost in the huge metropolis of Tokyo. :say_yes:

all joking aside...that particular map is really good...it actually helped prevent us getting lost several times....both my friend and i had purchased that atlas separately without consulting one another prior to leaving so when we went to tokyo, we had two copies of the same map.

that is good, to have one of those atlas' ready. it was quite a coincidence that you and your friend bought the same exact one.
I probably could use one of those next trip, i am hoping in 2007. What is the name/info of that atlas, thanks. :applaud:

you're very welcome...this thread has always been a great place to trade travel tips, hints, suggestions, etc. :woot:

Yes, a lot of good stuff in here. One of my favorite thread.

As for the train station, it's pretty much the same over here. (at big subway station anyway). If you take the wrong exit, you can end up 2 blocks in the opposite direction and need to walk for a while. Sometimes up to 20 minutes with the red lights... Did that numerous time, until I learned the street names.

yeah very true...i know in major metropolitan cities, the major subway stations can have several exits too as opposed to just two or three...as you mentioned street names are very important.

it's fun walking up and down the street lost as hell, jetlagged with little sleep...looking for a particular establishment.

yeah, getting lost and learning new things is always an adventure, trying to figure what this sign means, what the street is called, and what the heck people are saying... :headscratch:
I had a few japanese strangers that were so nice to help out, guided me and my friend at the train stations to where we wanted to go. I am not sure if people would go that far to help stranger out here, maybe, but not so sure. :headscratch:

i think the odds are less likely here but not necessarily a foregone conclusion....

but yeah the ppl there are very polite for the most part....unbelievably so in some instances...

Looks good, but not cheap. 9,999 to 20,000. Might be nice once in a while. :)

it'd only be worth it if the servers were dressed like ninjas and they were so stealthy they actually placed the food at your table without you noticing it :P

Tip: Avoid Shinjuku during rush hours. You'll be a lot happier. It's busy throughout the day, but during the rush....Tu put it right, forget it.

As for walking around the subway stations....it's amazing how most stations are linked underground. Thank goodness they have signs for which exit to take for what building/site.
