Sounds like a DNS problem alright.

Have they tried to add the address to the host file? On XP, it should be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ It's called "hosts". Just open it in notepad or wordpad and add this line:
Code:
72.20.18.85    jdorama.com

You should have this line in the file already: "127.0.0.1 localhost".
Should look something like this:
Code:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost
72.20.18.85    jdorama.com
# Start of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy

BTW, it sounds complicated, but at least it's working for you. I don't know why you need to do all this though... Head Scratch

I wish i dun hve to do this in order access this site, but nothing seems to work, I've tried looking checking the hosts file, dnslookup, ping, dnsflushing, i even called my isp, i still get to the same "jdorama has been migrated to..." page whenever i type in jdorama.com. So, in the meantime I had to use such tedious way to surf this site till Genma figure out what is wrong Puppy Dog Eyes

That's even weirder. I mean, the DNS should be the same for the .htm and the .php. Confused In this case, it has to be something else. Something to do with the code somewhere....

I'm using Firefox btw, I don't know if it has to do with anything. My guess is most people use Internet Explorer anyway...

This is the really funky part...

The temporary home page some of you are getting, only exists on the old server. Yet you're able to access this site and its database.

It has been weeks already, any DNS problems should have been refreshed by now. Could you check if any of your friends using the same ISP have the same problem?

Quick summary of pending problems.. did I miss anything out?

1. Emails unable to send to certain domains

2. web3 @ jdorama.com is not working (don't send any, it'll bounce, coz we have no mail server now)

3. Time is ahead by 1 hour for some time zones (e.g. +8GMT)

4. Some users load the contents of the old homepage from the old server, but are accessing the new server's database. Only reason I can think of, is that the ISP had cached the old server's content. I've deleted the main page from the old server now.

5. Some users can access the site, but only Inbox is working. Other links are not working, and only php links are functional. Suspect it could be linked to the above problem...

Isn't there an option to have pages not cached, or to expire them so that they are flushed after some time?? Head Scratch

Yes.

Internet Explorer: Tools \ Internet Options: the default value is 20 days, but you can reset it with a button.

Firefox: Tools\Options\Privacy\History. Default value: 25 days.

Hmm I didn't know there was an option on the browser side. I know webpages can have an expire option in the html.

Yes. For the cookies and cache file. Unless you're behind a badly configured proxy it doesn't last that long anyway.

Well I tried to get the activation email again, just on the chance it might work. (I moved this past weekend and just hooked back up to the internet.) Unfortunately, no sign of the email to my Comcast address nor to my Yahoo address. :/

hi Genma,
ive got the same problem too. somehow i just cant seem to access jd with my ip address eversince the site moved... i tried adding host name, flushing dns clearing cache etc, and they all don't work. i don't know where the problem lies in, but the site works perfectly fine with i try with someone else's internet connection, and hence i am able to make this post.

... basically, i can't enter the site at all, but i could log in. when i try to go directly to a forum thru its url, a notice would say that the board is currently not available.
(i'll post the screencaps of the above problems once i get home)

Guys, there are 2 types of caching we're talking about here.

1. Caching on browser
This is what you're talking about. Easily resolved by clearing the browser cache. On our part, our pages are already returning the HTTP headers as well as HTML headers to ensure the pages give the latest dates and are not cached. Unfortunately not all browsers behave as expected. Nevertheless, deleting the browser cache would eliminate this problem.

2. Caching by ISP
This happens when the ISP decides to cache the server's output. I've encountered this before and for some weird reasons, even after I cleared my browser cache and update the file on server, I would still download the old copy, which I believe belonged to the ISP's cache.

For those who are experiencing problems of loading the old server's pages, do indicate the name of your ISP here.

p/s: ISP = Internet Service Provider

ISP is different from IP address rite? i know i am under singnet. and when i run cmd > ipconfig, the ip add given is 192.168.1.65. when i use those online ip add detector, it says that there are proxies detected. really sorry, i'm not sure if i was answering ur question cus i'm not so good with IT matters.

1) well, when i try to access http://www.jdorama.com, this is what i see -->

( http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/ibvia/index.jpg ) - for a clearer view
initially, it was the notice about the site migration, but the above is what i get upom access jd.

2) then when i click on the a direct link to the forum, for example, http://jdorama.com/viewtopic.2525.14720.htm , this is what i see -->

noticed that i could log in to my acc but then unable to view anything else afterwhich...

3) and then i click on the jdorama logo on the top left corner of the page, this is the notice that i get -->

so now i'm really confused why i can semi-enter jd but can watch the forums at all ~ (again, i could make this post cus i'm currently using my friend's internet connection)

i hope the graphics helps to explain my problems better! would really appreciate any help that u might offer! thanks!
