Just finished watching "Satomi Hakenden". I'm not a big fan of period drama but this turned out to be quite good. The number of good actors in this drama, even the one making cameo appearances, was simply mind-boggling. Takizawa Hideaki took the leading role, and I must say I have misgivings when I learned that. Nevertheless the drama was action-packed, so even Takizawa didn't mess it up.

Interesting for me was that I watched the original "Satomi Hakenden" featuring Yashimaru Hiroko (can't remember the names of any of the dog-warriors). In the old version, a movie, all (or nearly all) the warriors died. This drama has a much happier ending.

for me, satomi hakkenden was ok, nothing too special - the special effects i think were a bit too in-your-face

Read this post and now I'm dling Tiger & Dragon. Sounds like a good drama to watch along with Aya's new drama after summer school ends Mr Green

Hmmm. Wish I'd seen Shindou's comments first, but what the heck.

Worst drama ever? Sengoku Jieitai was bad, but it's got a long way to go before it rates as one of my all time worst dramas.

Yoshitsuni beats it by a mile.

And remember, Kyoko Fukada and Norika Fujiwara have been making bad dramas for years.

K.T.

I haven't seen S.O.S. I've seen a couple of Kyoko's other dramas ("Fighting Girl" comes to mind and makes me shudder) and based on those... I've avoided S.O.S. like the plague.

Good thing.
I believe you would've hated the drama just as much as Triky, if not more.

your elevated, incisive commentary leads me to believe you are better off NOT watching it...not to say i'm so presumptous that i think we necessarily like all the same shows...but i'm almost certain you might barf if you saw SOS.

Thank you again for the review on Sengoku Jieitai. I almost bought ticket for the movie (Samurai Commando Mission 1549). I read the synopsis and the story sounded familiar. It didn't look so bad... since Haruka Ayase is in it. That was until I saw the original title: Sengoku Jieitai 1549. Uh oh... Sweat

BTW: WINNER: Best Art Director (Takeshi Shimizu), 2005 Asia-Pacific Film Festival Head Scratch
