i just mentioned in my post that in this very thread i was appalled by the rascist comments made by a Spanish coach regarding a black player and i also mentioned in this very thread that i found it appalling and disgusting how certain fans are openly rascist at soccer matches throughout Europe (namely in Italy, England, Spain and Germany)...if you consider that racist well there's nothing more to say.

i will admit i have been harsh and made some incisive comments about certain things/players..but academically, the criticism is not derived from racsism, not even remotely...it's derived from circumstances that don't concern race.

please don't throw around accusations of racism lightly.

i understand your point but i acknowledged openly that the italians played well and EARNED their berth in the final match. the gist of my point is that the italians as well as others benefited from certain incidents. i openly praise Cannavaro and their performance in game vs. Germany....but as you pointed out the fact that a team wins the World Cup on PK's is unsatisfying no matter who the winner is.

the conversation has recently evolved beyond who won the match...if somone accuses you of racism and you are not willing to speak up... that's a pathetic form of cowardice that i don't suffer from...

i actually think the discussion here has been rather decent and poised.....go to www.d-addicts.com....the debate over there was MUCH more vigorous and heated.

Well my friend on LJ told me something interesting, this was a while back, but thought I should share (just to lighten the mood ^^; )
According to fortune-tellers, WCup only takes place once in 4 years, so it falls into Tiger year, Horse year and Dog year of Chinese Zodiac. The thing is, for WCup that happened in Dog years before, only Brazil and Italy had won the cups. And this year is Dog year again, so the fortune tellers say that either Brazil or Italy will become the champion.

And sure enough Italy won, me and her now can never doubt foturne telling XD

It's funny you mentioned that...because Domenech the French coach is a serious believer in Astrology, and apparently based on his astrological analysis prior to the game...the omens did not bode well for France.

i dunno i'm kinda shocked?!? after his incredibly positive reception given how far Germany went...

Klinsmann steps down, Loew steps in

BERLIN, July 12 (Reuters) - Juergen Klinsmann, who led Germany to a surprise third-place finish in the World Cup, said on Wednesday he was stepping down and that assistant Joachim Loew would take his place.

'This was not an easy decision,' Klinsmann, fighting back tears, told a news conference in Frankfurt.

'I would like to thank everybody for two exciting, two wonderful years,' the 41-year-old said.

Klinsmann, who came under fierce criticism prior to the World Cup over his commitment and tactics, silenced the doubters by steering Germany to the semi-finals, where they lost to eventual world champions Italy in extra time.
He said he was leaving because he wanted to spend time with his family, who live in southern California, and planned to take a six-month break before thinking about his next move.
'I feel burned out,' Klinsmann said.
Loew, a former midfielder and Bundesliga coach who worked closely with Klinsmann in taking Germany further in the World Cup than many had expected, has agreed on a two-year contract to run the team.
The 46-year-old pledged to continue with the philosophy that he and Klinsmann put in place over the past two years.
'That's the only way we can achieve a lasting place among the very best in the world,' Loew said.
All 23 players in Germany's squad, 93 percent of the public, according to opinion polls, and even some of Klinsmann's harshest critics had said they wanted him to continue.
Germany have a friendly against Sweden on Aug. 16 before their 2008 European Championship qualifying campaign starts in September.

yeah...i'm still somewhat flabbergasted how it ended up...i was thoroughly convinced about the German dominance...it was an amazing match to see the Italians pull out TWO goals in basically the last minute of the second overtime half...that is what you call a SURPRISE...props to the Italians though....the finish to that game was absolutely amazing! I thought the Germany Vs Italy gamet was an even match, I think it cnot only came down to skills, but stamina and luck

i agree with you wholeheartedly...to think that klinsmann never had any coaching experience prior to this...that's absolutely amazing...he gets full marks in my book! Bow sucks he won't apprise his role as coach again....

all the players wanted him to coach again too! Puppy Dog Eyes

Please don't throw things like this. A well-known fact? How exactly do you know France? Can you precisely say who's racist and who's not? In every country, there's good people and bad people, tolerant people and racist people. France is no exception but neither your country.

Of course there's racism here, but we're not full of racists people and I don't see why we should be marked as "the most racists".

Tu_triky (aka The Nakai Bringer! That shall be your new name! ^^;; ) >> I really agree of everything you said! Many Italian supporters are really the worst, making fun of footballer's skin colors and playing dirty while soccer should be a fair & square sport. Can you give me the adress of soccer's D-addicts topic??? =D

Swedish_Japan_Lover >> I'm not denying one second Italians won the WC but to say France didn't play well is a false statement... And what upset me the most wasn't the defeat but Italian's Matrix Materazzi, quite the worst bad ass ever.

Calm down, it wasn't meant as a slam, hence the " Mr Green ". If it was a serious statement, there wouldn't have been a smiley.

Pretty much everyone is racist, it all just depends on how racist you are in public.
