Teacher molests elementary school girl on eve of graduation

KOBE -- An elementary school teacher was arrested on Tuesday for molesting a girl at their school, a day before the sixth-grader graduated, police said.

Toshiaki Kawakami, 55, a teacher at a Kobe municipal elementary school, stands accused of molestation and has admitted to the allegations.

Kawakami touched the girl on March 22, a day before the school's graduation ceremony for sixth graders.

The girl's parents filed a report over the case with police on July 20, prompting officers to arrest Kawakami, from Kobe's Nishi-ku.

The teacher is in charge of a six graders class. "We are trying to confirm the facts. Once this is done, we will deal with the matter severely," a Kobe Municipal Board of Education official said. (Mainichi)
