I tried looking up the others, and I'm thinking they aren't food:

dontsuku (ǂ‚) is to make drumming noise and I think is evocative of drumming at festivals.

donbei (ǂ񕺉q) maybe is a play on the word nonbei (ۂ񕺉q) "heavy drinker"

donta (ǂ) not sure, but I think it's used as a pet dog name, or is associated with drums?

but I could be wrong.

thanks for the info! helps for greater appreciation of the joke beyond the mere alliteration of the words

This one is definately quite interesting and pretty funny too.
The punch lines are a bit whacky.....i guess only Japanese people from Japan will get it. Its truly fun to watch. These guys are really great actors Applaud Applaud Applaud

Tiger Tiger Gilletiger hehe

yepp..i really wanna watch this
i think every Nagase's drama will be good..
like his recent drama --> My Boss My Hero

he is such a good actor..

btw i have a question
what is Takuya Kimura's best drama?
i know it may be a boring question
is Hero better than Love Generation?or Long Vacation?

I've only fully finish Hero and I finished that in 1 day
Mr Green

I think my brother got Love Generation....I've only seen like 7 eps of Long Vacation. Its pretty good.....but the other actors and actresses were just as good as him so he didn't stand out as much w00t! w00t!

Might just be me....but from the Kimu Taku dramas I've seen....I think Pride is the best I've seen him in so far.....

PostPosted: Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:19 am    Post subject: Other dramas like Nobuta Wo Produce? Reply with quote Back to top

It's funny the first japanese dorama i ever watched was nobuta wo produce, which i picked randomly at that time just because i felt like watching something, but couldn't find any more american series that seem good...

Haha well... i ended up watching all the episodes in one night, and until now i still think it's by far the best tv series i ever watched! That was 2 months ago... Since then I've been quite obsessed with doramas, because I really wanna find another drama that affects me as much as nobuta did. I've bought about a dozen other doramas since then, but somehow they never seem to me nearly as good... To be fair, I really like the opening 30 minutes or so of Waterboys2, but after that i think the show degenerates into jokes and voyeur-ish display of boys in swimsuit ;)

So, I'd really appreciate it if anyone can give pointers to other dramas produced with similiar style to nobuta.... Maybe i can help by listing the things i like most about nobuta wo produce -

1) I like the earlier episodes too that have self-contained stories like the eps about the school fair, or about nobuta's date... but what I can really watch over and over, and always something fresh/touching, is when the story picks up at about ep. 7 (nobuta & akira join the video club) all the way to ep. 10 (shuji's leaving)....

2) The music composed for the various scenes are truly wonderful... Seems like the characters don't have to say everything out because the music captures the mood so subtly right...

3) It's not sentimental. Haha.. nostalgic, deep, funny yet not too funny, sometimes subtly philosophical, but thankfully never ever sentimental! :)

4) Great looking guys (& girls), hahaha alright this one's always a persuasive reason to continue watching, but here they actually speak, too!! :) Like everyone else, I think Akira is played charmingly. And when I rewatch the series, I think Shuji is also played very well... Akira's jokes might not feel as fresh when watched 2nd/3rd time, but Shuji's character, i guess because it's more serious/vulnerable maybe, is always watchable... [I watched Gosuken2 recently and Kame's character basically just walks about and acts/poses cool for the camera]

[Thanks for reading!]

If you like the detective/mystery genre, give the following a try:

- Jikou Keisetsu
- Keizoku
- Ame to Yumi no Ato ni (with a bit of supernatural thrown in)

I am still watching "Anata no Tonari Dareka Iru" but this one fits right into the horror genre.
