It's not bad, but it's not my favorite either. I'll keep watching it, though.

Will start on "Narita Rikon" sometime today.

Finished "Narita Rikon". A few comments:

1. Episode 9 was corrupted (the file, not the contents) so I missed that one out, shame;

2. Added bonus - Fukatsu Eri starred in this drama. Wasn't expecting to see her so soon after "Odoru Daisousasen";

3. Very funny on the whole, but felt the whole thing was somewhat ruined by the very last scene (about 3 minutes).

Just finished Kaze no Haruka, the Asadora drama that completed its half-year run in April 2006. It follows the familiar formula of Asadora series with a young heroine who struggles to find her niche in society as she deals with personal, career, and familial challenges. One of the reasons I like Asadora series is the large, multi-generational casts. It's just not about teenagers or early twenty-somethings. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, mentors--there's a host of middle-aged and older characters who play significant roles in the protagonist's development, plus, because of the length of the series, their own lives are able to be explored in depth as well.

I just finished Jyoou no Kyoushitsu ("The Queen's Classroom") and I have to say I was surpirsed at how completely they drew me into the story, delighted at the way they stayed true to the premise... and amazed at Maya's (the Queen's) ability to always stay 3 steps ahead of the kids.

That's not the way it usually works in TV scripts.

I could have done without the specials that followed the series. They seemed to be an attempt to soften Maya's character. Sort of like that silly dance number Amami Yuki does at the end of each episode.

That was just her way of saying to the audience, I'm an actress, not this character! See? I can dance! I can smile! I'm really nice. Please please please, don't stereo type me as this character.

At first I disliked that she did that. It seemed cheap to me. But now that I've watched the whole show... I don't know. Maya is an extraodrinary character, and Amami did an amazing job playing her. She was probably wise to do her little dance.

And the kids in the cast did a great job as well. The war between the Queen and her class wouldn't have worked so well if the class hadn't been up to the challenge.

There are an awful lot of classroom series coming out of Japan. This one seems to be one of the stand alone originals within the genre.

Just finished "Jyouou". It's in the same category of "2nd House" and "Shimokita Glory Days" - i.e. soft porn. Nevertheless this one has a more focused storyline, and the cast is better. If you're into this sort of stuff then I'd recommend "Jyouou" as the best of these 3.
