It all depends on what ports are left open by the admins. BT is completely shut off here at work. My connection at home is the only way for me to use BT.

Just don't get busted. They could still be able to track down what you're doing. Smile

Depending on the build of Firefox you have, there may be a setting you've ticked that permanently stops animated gifs from being animated. There is also a Web Developer extension that can block animated gifs in Firefox.

*edit*
if you enter about:config into the address bar, you can change the setting. Look for "image.animation_mode" and change it's value to "normal"...

Wireless or wired? Hackable or not?

I use the Linksys WRT54GS: it allows me to add a different firmware that adds functionality to the router (like boosting the wireless power signal). If you don't need it, it's probably overkill.

Wired.

Maybe with a built-in print server.

Why would I wanna hack it? Performance?

i say, unless you have specific needs, any name branded one would work. i prefer Netgear, because all the linsys i've ever had crapped out on me. others will tell you the opposite.

Does the hacking for performance apply for wired routers as well?

Just a simple wired router will do I think.

Firmware is essentially a piece of software that reconfigures hardware, usually to fix bugs and/or improve performance...
