However, Asou's affection for Aya was so sweet...kind of makes me wish I had experienced that sort of love. You're right, love doesn't need to be physical but as I watched the movie, I kept thinking to myself, aww...why doesn't he hold her hand or at least put his hand on her shoulder or something...

I started watching this movie again and it's driving my husband batty...heh...heh...can't get enough. I love this film.

AHH that might be because asou's too shy!! *tsk ryo!! but nvm i will cry even more if he kissed aya heh* Get your husband to watch too!! Hoho.. this drama is worth watching by people of all ages and gender Smile My mum was quite against me watching jdramas at the start but one litre of tears made her change her opinion! (she ended up watching with me too)

how ya been,
it's been a long time I havent passed by and whatnot.

After somehow stumbling across erika's new album (which wtf that took me by surprise kaoru amane!???) i'm simply glad many of the rumors about her were all false and she's on a good path, or at least I hope (prefer to picture her as the perfect innocent little girl she played when she did aya)

anyways, I read a few pages back someone mentioning something regarding aya's disease. Well sadly there isnt a cure and it doesn't look like much is being done. I'm currently on my 3rd year as a med student which just happen to be studying in what I hope will make me a future neurologist.

By myself I doubt I would ever be able to find a cure to such a complex disease, but I don't know, while it sounds cheesy, I have this weird feeling that tells me somehow I'm going to help people similar to Aya.

Before watching 1 liter of tears (which was my first Japanese drama, from the few I watched) I had many doubts if I should be studying to be a doctor (many factors such as the work, time, price, and overall pressure were crossing my mind, and I still had time to persue any other paths/options) but somehow that drama changed something in me. Now, before 1 liter of tears, I watched many dramas always to be dissapointed cause they basicly, well SUCK. However, something caught me, could be the characters, the music, the setting, I can't explain but it made me rethink alot about myself.

There's a character that's not mentioned a lot and many can't identify themself with and that's the doctor. I somehow found his character to be like a mirror, at times he seemed hard to understand, and very dry. He would put this persona as being very cold and telling you the straight facts however, inside he was dying. He kept trying to keep his relation with the patient, as just that another person, but even the years of experience and training do not help you when it comes to seeing someone you know will die and there's simply nothing you can do no matter the time, money, and effort you put into it.

1 liter of tears is one drama that sets the bar for others (and I really doubt it can be topped in our generation). I tried to get this entire drama in spanish subtitles for my mom (native spanish speaker who watches many spanish dramas and whom I love to death) but sadly I wasn't able to (just got 2 episodes, as I believe the project was stopped or something) also she claimed it was simply to sad for her to watch (which I could understand, but I just wished she would watch it)

anyways, thats enough ideas, rants, and stuff most would not care to read. For those who actually read all of it, thanks for taking your time, any comments, suggestions, links etc. just post it here (prefer a pm as I don't have the time to visit this site every week).

Thank you very much, and may you have a healthy day.

Edit: After doing a quick search on erika's single etc. I just found out that is basicly a character she plays on a drama.
Have any of you seen the drama? is it worth the download/time?
I'm downloading ep 1 just to see how it goes, I don't have a lot of spare time so I'm hoping this is as good as 1 liter of tears (even though I'm setting my spectations a bit high)

I watched Taiyou No Uta (thats' the drama you talk about) and no it's not as good as 1 litre of tears. Erika is a good actress but the story is not very sad and interesting (except maybe the last episode). I watch a lot of drama and according to me 1 litre is the best. If you have no time to waste try another drama.

I just watched the first ep for taiyou no uta, and well is not bad but it looks like it's a bit slow (taking a while to developed) also is not really that sad (which in a way is good). Going to give it a show and watch a few more episodes to see if it advances a bit more.

I don't mind is not really that sad (cause it would just be another 1 liter of tears wannabe, terminal type disease, brain damage, young girl, blah blah would be identical if they focused to much on her problem) but I hope they compensate for that by giving the viewer something a bit different and complexity.

Erika looks lovely in this drama, fell in love with her in 1 liter of tears and still 1 of the 2 Japanese stars I consider drop dead gorgeous)

well.. just a suggestion. I'm sure your mom can understand some English words or maybe not... Maybe you could watch it with her and translate it as it goes. Although that maybe difficult (and probably annoying).
Maybe you can request a Spanish Subs for 1litre of tears over at D-Addicts.

There was a group (Yashin Fansub) that started and did 2 episodes and then I believe the project stopped.

Yeah I don't mind translating things for her as I'm used to (I end up doing this very often throughout the week for others) but it doesn't have the same impact as the words that are chosen can be a bit different in spanish and have to be chosen wisely. Furthermore, the quickness and number of conversations throughout an episode is simply quite a challange to translate on the spot without having the person loose intrest/ or at least part of the story. I bet you understand what I mean.

I will see if I can find a spanish translation out there to it apart from the Yashin funsub which I have allready looked into (which I doubt I will find any) but if someone does, please let me know Smile

Thanks.

sorry for the double post but I did not want to mix these two subjects together.

I just finished watching taiyou no uta, and while is true regarding the tear factor is not as high when compared to 1 liter of tears, HOLY HELL THE LAST EPISODE, thats all I have to say (that episode was simply to much, it brought me back to 1 liter of tears, and yes I did shed a tear, couldn't hold it)

I actually liked the fact the entire story wasn't based on her problem as 1 liter of tears (since it would just be a straight up copy) and more around the moral and the romance (not even sure how you name this type of love between them two).

I think after watching the dramas I have (not many as most of you) I have come to the conclusion which is the genre I like (or at least what I find appealing about Japanese dramas) is romance.

For example, I loved 1 liter of tears as you can tell hehe, and I thought it was the DEATH, CRYING FACTOR, but is not, it adds to the overall story but sometimes it's just to much and almost makes you feel depressed. I think it was the love between aya and the guy (well they loved each other without really saying a word but yeah lol)

Then I also liked hana yori dango and I thought it was the comedy factor in it, or the action. But also there was a certain different love in that story that I just figured is what I liked.

Then on H2, the same thing, the love between the characters.

Then finally now taiyou no uta, THAT DEFINED what I'm talking about.
takayuki loves her to death and in a way hides it which makes it even better I guess till a certain point, and then BAM he tells her heheheh.

So all in all, I THINK I FINALLY FOUND THE GENRE I LIKE.
I'm still a bit in denial that it's romance (like WTF thats mostly girl books and dramas) but I think is because the way they portray love in Japanese dramas is way more pure and innocent than American romance stories which is all about sex and lust, mostly.

with that in mind, heck I think now I can define what dramas I like more. Then again, I could be wrong.

Note: I still have to have a hottie/cuty in the story for me to say "I love it." Just makes things work so much better hehe.

A friend recommended sekai no chuushin which looks great (has takayuki which is a plus, but I'm not sure if I digg the actress) will give it a try.
Any ideas, comments, suggestions, etc.?

Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post (apologize if there any spelling errors I sort of rushed and crammed a lot of ideas)

hi everyone....
i watched this dorama some time ago....and i've never (up until now) found a film that can make me shed tears that much (if i'm not mistaken, i started crying since the episode 3 Shameful Cry )
What touched me the most was the 'family' thing
it kinda reminds me of my own family, how we've been struggling ( for my sister is suffering from some kind of disease that needs our extra attention)
and Ako portrays me a lot (how at the beginning i was so mean to my sister...but now i've been starting to accept things the way they are...and i can tell that i'm proud of my sist)
this dorama teaches people how to behave when someone you know is suffering from that kind of disease.and to help us understand how the people who suffer, feel inside...
i really hope some people who have watched it, feel the same way with me

Just finished watching the whole series in a day. Certainly this is not your regular drama. Seeing this drama is based on a real-life story, there are bound to be lessons to be learnt and values to be pondered. It certainly done well in that department which sets it apart from other series of the same tear-jerking genre.

The title of 1 Litre of Tears (1LoT) is fitting for this awesome drama. Not only does it described the agony faced by the protagonist of contracting a terminal disease at such a young age of 15 where life is just starting to take off, it also reflects what the audience is going though while watching this show. It's not exaggerating to say I have shed a good amount of tears and chock my throat while watching every episode.

The theme is definitely not new and has been done to death in many other dramas. However the execution of this drama is done with such skill that makes it unique. The pace is perfect, neither slow nor fast. Most dramas of the same genre suffers from being too slow paced and get tedious to watch. One of the most important aspect of a tear-jerking drama is not a exaggerate and cry at every opportunity. How many times have we seen drama over done the crying of their characters. Based on the diary written by a real person, 1LoT stays pretty faithful to the actual diary and thus all the crying scenes are all delivered naturally and convincingly. Which adds on to the emotions attached to the audience while watching the show. Furthermore the OST of 1LoT is nothing short of awesome. It is comparable to some of the game OSTs out there (IMO games has the best OST around when compared to dramas, movies etc). Infact I think it's on par with Xenogears OST which is one of my favourite. The photos of the actual victim shown at the ending credits blurred the line between the show and reality which enforces the fact that you are watching real-life events unfold infront of your eyes. The elements combined to gives you a package of all round emotional ride which envelop you while watching it.

This show also bring forward strong messages. While indulging in the worldly desires, we have forgotten and take for granted the very basis of life. We have been comparing and envy others and not been satisfied with what we already have. The underlying message of the show is that been healthy is the most important asset. This is not something new and has be reflected through many different media in the past. However the show make you experience it in a third party view as though you are experiencing it directly. I would go far to say this show is life-altering but it certainly brings out the point more prominently.

Well based on the pretty lengthy thoughts above, it's not hard to deduce the degree of appreciation I have for 1LoT. This is a very good show which I urged you to watch. Sharing is caring they say. Most tear-jerking shows appeals more to girls with their corny love stories of how the couple overcome the ordeal. 1LoT is different in the sense that, it focus more on friends and especially family support to the protagonist. It also shows how the protagonist accept her fate on her strong will. The female lead puts in a very powerful performance and is a joy or should I say sorrow to watch.
