akashiya sanma is a comedian.. he's quite funny i think.. but nothing to rave about.. he acted in sora kara furu ichioku no hoshi with kimura takuya..

Not quite sure oso. but in Japan a lot of ppl like him. He's a entertainer, always appearing in TV shows. He tell jokes and likes ijima naoko

Reason why he's #1 is that he's ranked high across the board in demographics: in older women, middle age, youunger, older men, etc. Where as, for example, KimuTaku may be hi in the women, older men will prolly not like him as much as sanma for they can relate to sanma and not KimuTaku. But I do have to admit, he is very self serving and 'chotto' annoying.

First time I saw him I thought he was quite annoying with his laughing voice. But as my japanese is improving and watching more variety show, now I do like him very much, somehow I respect him also for his very positve thinking. Sanma maybe is the most popular artiste across all age in Japan. I like very much his variety show <a href="http://www.ntv.co.jp/koikara/" target="_blank"><font color="yellow">"Koi kara sawagi"</a></font>, <a href="http://www.ntv.co.jp/goten/" target="_blank"><font color="yellow">"Odoru Sanma Goten"</font></a> and <a href="http://www.mammachan.com/" target="_blank"><font color="yellow">"Sanma no mamma"</font></a>. If you see his younger photo he is very handsome I think, although he is �o����(deppa).

Sanma has been around for years. He worked very hard as a comedy act which did not do terribly well but he kept going. We used to watch him every week with a comedy show that he had with a group of children. I guess he was supposed to be a teacher and he had them doing all sorts of funny things. Most weeks they played baseball and as they got a little better they would play against other teams. Some of the children were so sweet and Sanma would bring out the comedy aspects with them. I sometimes felt sorry for the children as he concentrated so much on getting laughs.
It would be interesting to know if any of the children became actors as they grew older.
He would be a clever man I think but always looking for a laugh which gets a bit tiring...but he is first and foremost a comedian so he is very good with that. He does very well with Kimura when they do their San Taku shows. He certainly makes Kimura laugh and I think they both have wicked humour...
