That's precisely why juicy boys (and girls too, let's not be sexists now) who can barely act and hardly put two (musical) notes together often get voted, idol, singer, artiste etc. of the year.

She's the exception that becomes the rule, and let's not forget her partner in crime, Tacky - the quality of their acting is nothing short of criminal.

I went past "Nyokei Kazoku" a little too quickly, simply labeling it "gawdawful", and I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression.

My distain for this series has little or nothing to do with the actors and actresses. I'm a huge fan of both Yonekura, and Seto. And Reiko Takashima did what she could wth the part of the evil, wicked, evil, eldest sister. Who's evil.

My problem is with the genre.

If any of you have ever read novels by writers like Judith Krantz or Danielle Steel and said to yourself when finished: Mmmm. That was tastey. I think I'll read another. Then A) You might really like "Nyokei Kazoku". And B) Shame on you. (That said, these two women sell more books world wide than almost any other writer.)

The books are almost always the same, simplistic, over the top, soap operatic bits of fluff with strikingly one dimentional characters.

The heroine is almost always a beautiful young shop girl born on the wrong side of the tracks, but through pluck and general all around goodness of spirit (and a rockin' bod) makes her way to the top.

Ah, but there are battles to be fought along the way. There's always a rich, evil family, or a rich evil corporation that does everything and anything it can think of to keep our plucky heroine down. They lie to her, they lie about her, they hit her, they try to kill her, they call her hurtful names... it's just heartbreaking. (Or stomach turning depending on your tastes.)

In the books everyone makes a point of having sex with everyone else, and they went light on that in Nyokei (because Japanese TV has become rather prudish of late) but all the rest of the banal, overused, hackneyed plot points are there in this series.

It's a genre that demands you root for the humorless and stupid... and it makes my teeth itch.

Thanks for the elaboration, Geez...

I suppose my undying adoration of Ryoko-chan prompted your more detailed explanation of your disdain for the drama and though it wasn't really necessary, it's greatly appreciated nonetheless. Victory! Peace!

HAI!! U Suck

Now the drama Im watching totally rocks so far. Im on ep 10 of Umizaru Revolutions, thanx to Dochira-kun. Hug

Each episode more exciting than the last. THe supporting cast is really great and the production values first rate having had the backing of the Japan Coast Guard.

Dont miss this one folks if you like an action drama!! My BF and are so hooked. Applaud Applaud

Started Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru. Loved the first two eps. Somehow manges not to be trite. Yutaka is very good. Not just his usual cool silent self. Thumbsup

just finished Lunch Queen.
I thought it was pretty good.. better than the other ones I saw.
Could have been one of my favorites but somehow it feels like it lacks something.
It had a nice great cast, especially like the fact that there's a lot of familiar faces. Shinichi was too funny, Yuko played a different kind of cute, Misaki played as the cute Toma-chan which is pretty different from her role in DenOto and Gokusen.. I think I like her character here better. The 3 brothers were funny and for the heck of it let's add Yamada to it.
The plot was.. okay but got better as it progressed. Funny how all the brothers ended up falling for Natsumi, but who wouldnt.. (I dont think this is a spoiler, its pretty much a given)

It gets boring once in awhile but gets really exciting near the ending. I couldn't even stop watching after episode 9. I haven't been saving the ones I DLed to DVD lately but I think I'm keeping this one.
Wasn't too crazy about the OST though.. but heck it didnt bother me that much Sweat
The ending was... uhh I can't explain it. It's not bad, but it's not really that satisfying either. 8/10

Absolutely love Takeuchi Yuko in this drama, although I also have misgivings towards the ending.

Maybe the producers where going to do a special to capped this drama off, but somehow didn't get to it.

Takeuchi has a lot more charisma in this drama than she did in "Pride" - you just can't compare a demure OL with a fun waitress. I would love to see how she plays the very different role in her new drama.

EHH?! she has a new drama?!
well it was fun watching her do this kind of role.. I'm just not really used to it Bonk
A special would have been nice. Well, there are a lot of Jdoramas that I thought deserved and needed a special because of the unsatisfying ending.

Just finished episode 6 of "14 Sai no Haha". This really is a surprisingly gripping drama. The sharp contrast between Miki's innocence and naivety; her mother's demure strength; the editor's cynicism; and Satoshi's mother's over-reactions makes for a very nice story. Did I say the soundtrack is also first class?

Against my better judgement I'm downloading "14 Sai no Haha".

I love the cast, but having that little girl from "Queen's Classroom" play the part of a 14 year old who gets pregnant is probably gonna freak me out.

Old duffers get like that when it concerns kids we like. And I came to really like that little girl in the other show.

It's nice to hear that you guys think the show is worth watching.
