Tell-all 'shocker,' celebrity love dominate entertainment coverage

Eriko Sato
Celebrity Eriko Sato revealing that she's dating kabuki actor Ebizo Ichikawa and actress Mariko Ishihara's "shocking" kiss-and-tell book garnered the most attention among the entertainment stories on the Japanese language MSN-Mainichi Interactive site this week.

Ishihara's book "Fuzoroi na Himitsu" is a kiss-and-tell look at Japan's entertainment world in the '80s, with the actress taking the rare step of using the full names of those involved in the stories she had to tell.

"Each of the love affairs I had were wonderful and important and I wanted to pass that along faithfully. I didn't want to lie," Ishihara said at a promotional event at a Tokyo hotel on Wednesday. Whether the men she named in her book are as happy as she is remains unknown.

Sato, meanwhile, finally came clean on whether she was dating Ichikawa after the couple had been reportedly spotted on secret dates several times.

"We're enjoying ourselves and want to declare that today," Sato said, also on Wednesday, when she was at a movie preview.

Later the same night, Ichikawa -- celebrating his 29th birthday -- confirmed that he and Sato were an item. There's no talk of marriage yet, but some decision must have been made considering both broke their silence about the relationship at around the same time.

Other top-hitting entertainment stories included Yumiko Shaku using a DVD promotional event to announce she likes guys who "love with honesty" and tarento Yuko Ogura appearing at a move preview where she said she would forgive a man having one fling, but not if he kept on doing it. (Mainichi)

I learled some interesting comments on net. Everybody admire the acting of Ebizo in the movie, but , because his personage is one of the japanese human-torpilas of the Great War, they say the movie 'll not have a great success out of Japan. Is it true? Shocked
Betsy, do you know someting more about?

Humm, you probably read the Mark Schilling's review about the movie. In fact, everyone praised the acting of Ebizo in the movie, but is also true that the subject of the movie, the World War II, is hard to face for countries like China, US, and even Japan. That's why the movie was said to not have a great sucess outside Japan.
Actually, the movie didn't have a outstanding sucess in Japan, but did #4 on box office rankings in the first week and #9 on second.
Ebizo was nominated for Blue Ribbon Awards (one of the most important movie awards of Japanese industry) as New Face, but didn't win, unfortunately.
Oh, the DVD will be released on February 23.
