Virtually nothing hits 30 anymore though...that's too ambitionous...even Engine didn't hit 30 on its opening episode. The miracle these days is over 20 or 25...very few dramas attain even those shares.

That is true, except ENGINE had a really poor cast compared to usual Kimura series, leading actress Koyuki is not exactly a rating getter. It's been a while since KimuTaku starred in a dorama I thought that and the fact that TBS gathered this amazing cast and SOOO much promotion the week before in other programs, I was expecting it to hit 30.

i can see your point....but notwithstanding the lack of heavy hitting co-stars in Engine...i've been casually taking note of most ratings over the last several seasons...and it's rare for ANY drama to hit 20 let alone 25+.

ratings of 30 plus are a thing of the past, with very rare exceptions. i wasn't expecting 30 plus given the downward trend of dramas over the last 12-15 months. kimura still commands the highest ratings but even those ratings will likely never reach the heights of the 90s and early decade dramas.

the nature of mass communciation and multimedia resources has changed too much.

Yeap. I think from past drama ratings, any drama that goes over 20% is considered good unlike previous years where you can see a drama hitting 25% or even over 30%.

For Kimura's drama, the cast is very strong and in a way attractive unlike Engine where they used a lot of new young faces. I won't expect Karenaru Ichizoku to hit 30% due to the current drama viewership trend but I thought I'll be very surprised if it didn't go past 25% given the fact that TBS did a lot of promotion for this drama.

hmm.. for the katou region it hit 27.7%... i think is quite good even though not the best for takuya... but from what i know that for kasai �֐��n���, it did hit 30.5%... so i not sure which one is more accurate... but it still great.. it really hard to find dorama hitting so high...

But high ratings are more often good than low ratings, and if the rating keeps going up week after week, it's 99% sure to be good

I think it's the change in rating throughout the series that's most important, and obviously a show getting under 10% is doing something wrong and a show consistently getting above 25% is doing something right. Also have to factor in the timeslot/station etc.

Looks like any other dramas have no hope of being the #1 watched drama when KimuTaku is in.
