I think Da girls who sing da song in turn left turn right is Either Gigi leung and Sun yan zi..Hope it helps if I'm not wrong ne IkematsuSosuke
I feel a little silly now becuz I watched the music video again, and yeah it looks like Gigi (the main character) in the movie, she just has a different hair-do. I love this movie, it made me see that my ex, whom I dumped, is not my "soul-mate."
haha..u r right..i find that many popstars dont write/compose
i guess most rock stars do everything by themselves?
I've always compared popstars/rock stars to your local TV station's Evening News...
In the news world, you have REAL journalists who are out there dodging car bombs and such while writing stuff in their notepads. And then you have people who look good and can read teleprompters very well. To me, pop stars and TV newspeople are one in the same.
Pop stars are those with a great voice, or at least a good enough voice where someone thought they can sell records. And then there are the William Hung's that... well, do I need to go any further? In otherwords, they weren't brought up to write music; they were brought up to sing music.
I think the reason why rock bands write their own stuff is that a rock band, by definition, work as a team. I don't think someone outside of the band could write for them because the lyrics/music is very unique to the character to the band, and only the band would really know what those characteristics are. For example, picture someone like Bernie Taupin... Wrote great lyrics for Elton John and won tons of awards because of it. However, I don't think he could write music for a band like Metallica or Swing Out Sister. Bernie wouldn't share the cohesian that bonds those bands together. To me, rock bands are really the journeymen of music, just like real journalists, and therefore should be totally separate from thse pop stars. Pop stars are just faces with a singing voice.
There are VERY FEW exceptions to this line of thought... Matsuda Seiko wrote most of her stuff, and even did her own choreography for her concerts. And, Mariah Carey writes a very large percentage of her music, especially during her earlier years.

I used to like chinese music.
But i've grown to hate it except for a few artistes (those who have great voices like eason chan, or those who have both talent and great voices like david tao, chen qi zhen). Because almost everything they release sounds dead and recycled these days (IMO). There were alot more good songs around 10-20 years ago, where there were more artistes who were making good music rather than aiming to hit a chord with the public (or maybe succeeding in both at the same time).
Sadly, nowadays record companies are churning out new singers mainly because they are cheap to package and promote. Thats why alot of singers die out after 1 or 2 albums if their records don't sell, even if they might have had much more potential than some of the pretty faces out there. And chinese singers has always had the habit of singing alot of japanese/korean covers (to save money and time and still get a good tune?) which i feel lacks originality and hinder's the development of chinese music.
After listening to jpop/rock for a few years now, I think japanese singers have alot more individuality than chinese singers... but thats maybe because i've mostly been listening to talented singers/bands rather than stuff like morning musume. I have not come across alot of covers yet, and even if i had i think they were mostly resung in a different "feel" rather than copying even the background music directly from the main song like a karaoke session. But I found out that alot of chinese songs which i liked, starting from even the 80s, were actually japanese songs... which negatively affected my opinion on chinese songs again. As a chinese actually i feel rather sad about the chinese music scene now...

I mostly agree with you...being chinese myself; I do sometimes feel bad that I listen to japanese music more than chinese music. But I'm pretty selective in the japanese music I listen to - there are probably the same number of crappy japanese singers/musicians just like the Chinese music scene.
But don't forget HK/chinese singers may be taking some songs from Japanese singers but there are also a number of Japanese songs that were taken from chinese singers as well...eg. Gackt's songs Vanilla and Oasis. One of the songs V6 performed in their concert was taken from Priscilla. Not Japanese but the Korean group HOT's Autumn Story song (I forgot the name) is originally by Wong Chi. Those are just a few examples. So I think it's more influence than anything else, especially since these countries are all located so close in proximity.
The problem with the chinese music scene is that many of the talented artists never get the opportunity to make it big and end up just staying as part of the underground music scene (of course there are exceptions like David Tao, Faye Wong and Lee Hom). I guess it's because the music industry feels that these artists don't have the looks to commercialize. I hope that the industry wakes up soon and realize that people actually do want to listen to quality music.
