We can get 24mbits connections here, if you live in the right area. I'm still waiting for it to be put on here at work the only down side is it's only 1mbit upload.

I could have fiber optics at home, but it's the same problem as elsewhere, except Japan. They cap the upstream at 1mbits. I'd prefer slower download, but faster upload. I'm not paying $30 more a month, to have 20mbits downstream instead of 5. They both have 1mbits up... If I can't upload fast, I can't download fast and that's probably why they capped it.

The 2 majors are the cable company (Videotron) and telephone company (Bell). Bell started a another branch to push TV and internet on fiber optics, but it's only available downtown (VDN). You can have internet 10mbits with unlimited download for $65 a month or 20mbits for $80 a month with cable. Add $10 if you don't have cable TV with them. As for the other one, VND, it's $60 a month, but with 100GB of transfer. As for the other, you need to add $10, if you don't have TV. DSL isn't great. They both have it, but you can't download more than 15 or 20GB a month. After that, it's $10/GB.
My ISP is from another province. (Near Wynter) A small company, but it offers Dry DSL. You don't need a phone line to have it. I have a cellphone, so I don't need it. I pay $30/month for 5mb/1mb and 100GB of transfer. I also have to pay $7 a month to the phone company to rent to copper cable. I don't watch TV, so instead of paying $100/month, I pay $37. I also have full access to my modem. I can tweak it if I want to, not possible with the majors. _________________

Wow, interesting.
My ISP is a fairly small one, but regarded as one of the best. I'm on a (comparatively) slow 512/128kb connection, for $40/month, includes 12G peak time downloads (midday/midnight) and 36G off-peak.
I can get 1500/256 for $10/month more, same downloads, or 8mb/1mb for $65 a month (same downloads) - I want to switch to that one, but I have to convince Mrs A.D. first.
As I said above, ADSL2+ is available in some areas (not mine) for $60/month, 24/36G downloads. (THIS is what I would really like!)

I see... At least you can let it download its stuff while you do other things.
I don't mind having slower speed, but I need bandwidth. I used to be on faster cable, but always ended up paying $45 extra each month for a few GB. _________________

That's what I like about my ISP: Only $3/G if you go over, on most of their plans. Some of the others charge 15c/MB, which doesn't sound like much, but it's $150/G! And that on plans with 100MB/month limit
Yes, that's 100 megabytes/month, about 1/4 of a high quality drama ep.

Ugh I totally hate a monthly download limits, about 3-4 years ago I got a warning from my old ISP for excessive bw usage (I was only doing 40-50gb a month with a 5mbit line) and if i didn't change my download behaviour they'd fine me with $10/gb I asked them what was fair use policy, and they answered around 20-25gb a month

You're right. It seems that most LCD screens use dithered 18-bit color instead of 24bits. I checked my monitor and it support 16.2 million colors. Since 24bits is 16.7 million, looks like I'm missing a few.
You wouldn't have one of those big 22" Apple screen, would you?
i wish, my friend does, i have the Dell 20" widescreen.

Sou desu. Not that he downloads anything, but still. He went over after about 2 weeks of browsing. Only difference is, his package doesn't charge for going over, it slows the speed to 28k.

They have to be targeting ignorants. If they don't know the difference between MB and GB, they go with the biggest number that cost $5 less a month. _________________
