The drama is based on the popular manga of the same name by Hisaya Nakajo, which has already been dramatized in Taiwan. Horikita plays the protagonist Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl in the U.S. who one day sees the young athlete Izumi Sano (Oguri) compete in the high jump on television. She begins to idolize him, and decides to move to Japan to attend the same school as him. However, Izumi goes to an all-boys school, so Mizuki disguises herself as a boy to achieve her dream of being with her idol.
Toma plays the part of Shuichi Nakatsu, a classmate and friend of Mizuki and Izumi.

The Taiwanese version of was imo bad. It received very high viewership probably due to the good-looking male lead. I'll look forward to how Pori-chan fare in it Big Grin

Hi everybody,
not so sure about a crossdressing Maki-chan, but I am of course looking forward to be convinced otherwise. I have high hopes for this! And I absolutely adore Toma and his seemingly positive energy.
See you soon then in the upcoming Hana Kimi thread!

I think it's a good idea for Maki to take as many different characters as she can - to prove that she has range. Looking at the idol market in Japan, there's so many girls who just trade in on their looks and are satisfied with that. Maki's gorgeous *and* she has talent - why shouldn't she try something unexpected? Manga adaptations are nothing to sneer at - especially when they're popular ones - it's like movies made out of novels, and I think after the disappointing reception for Teppan Girl and Seito Shokun!, Maki-chan needs to have something be a sure hit. And Shakespeare used the cross-dressing gender confusion plot in Twelfth Night - that's hardly just 'manga crap.'

I for one will be waiting for July 3 anxiously - eye candy all around!

"yey!" for your post w00t!
from the clip marienella posted, it looks like she will make a good pretty boy. Just need to tweak down the voice a bit, make it lower. She can do it.
it's just scarry for the fanboys to be lusting over a "pretty boy" hehe
a boy/man role is one of the dream character that every actress would love to play. Maki is no Hillary Swank but she's talented enough to handle this (I think)

I think what people forget is that Mizuki is hardly the most masculine boy ever - that's something the manga keeps on bringing up - that she's always known as the 'cutest/prettiest' boy on campus, and there is quite a lot of humor from the subtext between characters, because it's an all boys school. Plus there's this entire Miss Osaka contest that involves the boys DRESSING IN DRAG. Mizuki is androgynous in a school full of bishounen - and ::cough:: JE/idol culture is full of boys that look like girls. I hardly see the big deal about playing Maki playing a pretty boy - she's a pretty girl, she just needs to lower the pitch of her voice (which is already pretty soft spoken and low), cut her hair and walk differently. Some people are acting like she has to stick socks down her pants or take testosterone or grow facial hair.

so it is adapted from the same comic as the TW drama "Hana Kimi." It must be interesting. (and should be better than TW ver hehe) I'll definitely watch this one. (at least Pori-chan just have to pretend to be a boy, no need to exchange bodies like "Papa to Musume no Nanokakan "...Shameful Cry)
