[Edit: Another new actress you may not have encountered is Yuki Matsushita. She plays Kimura sister. She's not spectacular, but whenever I've seen her, she gives a solid performance
Yuki Matsushita is a fine actress...she did a great job in Sekachu, as the sensei, particularly in the special... _________________

Just curious, Ralph , have you read the novel Crying out love was based on, entitled "Socrates in Love" or the manga of the same title...also, have you seen the Korean movie version of this story called "My Girl and I"? _________________

No. None of the above. I did buy the movie version and was terribly disappointed. It had none of the grandeur of scenery or quality of acting that the drama has.
Just finished Honmamon, an Asadora drama from 2001/2002 (thanks, Wynter). A pretty good series with some excellent acting. Yoko Nogiwa showed once again that she is a terrific actress; her character reminded me a lot of the character she played in Sweet Home--both were demanding teachers whose stern demeanor resulted in memorable, often times hilarious scenes with their earnest but clumsy mentorees. Jun Fubuki and Yumi Asou also stood out with their performances.

How about Chizuru Ikewaki.... As Wynter said she deserves an academy award for her performance in Honma Mon. Her range is incredible as she slowly matures in the drama and plays her role accordingly.
Pride is my second all time favorite drama. (Crying Out Love is my all time favorite and Churasan my all time favorite asadora).
I was not too taken with Engine... Wynter DO NOT READ THE SPOILER!!!!

I need romance in my dramas not kiddie tear jerkers
.
I'll be interested to read your critique after you finish.
I did read the spoiler. LOL! It's like telling a child not the press the big, red, juicy button. Of course they're gonna press it!
I have the feeling that I might get frustrated with this drama, based on the comments of others. But I'll go in with no expectations and see what happens.
Btw, did you read my Love Revolution review? I LOVED this drama!

This drama is a masterpiece. Never have I seen a drama where ALL the characters are nasty. Including the protagonist.

I saw that look Ryoko gave the camera in the last scene...

ILll watch episode 3 this afternoon but I fear itLll turn into something tearjerky ...
Another one of my favs! Last Christmas is not a tearjerker at all... I mean, not in the sense that you're crying forever because she has a disease. It's not like that. This drama is just grand!

YAY! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Ever since Ralph exposed me to it, I've been wanting to spread the love for Honmamon.

Ikewaki-chan is truly the star of this show. Her acting was flawless and her portrayal of her character was so real. I mean, she looks like she's 12 years old, but she pulled off being a wife and mother PERFECTLY! I can't to see her in more stuff.
On Topic: I rewatched some epis of Brother Beat last night... guess it's time to jump into Engine! _________________

Chizuru is one of my favorite actresses and your comments and review of Honnamono makes me want to watch it now. Also, Nyokei kazoku really sounds like a fun drama (I'm all for conniving characters). Maybe i shouldn't visit this site too much because everyone's suggesting so many good dramas that I'm spending all my free time watching them.
Back on topic...though I'm watching a Korean drama atm, I've also started to watch the first episode of Women of the Onsen. Natsukashii! _________________
Ryoko Yonekura is perfect for these kind of roles. Her character is freakin scary. Kinda reminds you of her in Kurokawa no Techou. though i'm not that of a big fan of hers, but she did really good
the pace in the first half should be a little faster. other than that? marvellous! TV ratings are decieving huh?? until now, the late night doramas that i've seen are satisfying.
question! : in the ending

I'm having a hard time with this. The actors who are the best, but the story sucks and taking place mostly in just one dining room gets very tedious. If it were not for Abe and Yada Akiko I would have abandoned this around ep 3 if not sooner.
