English To Japanese Questions

Those have been explained a number of times...

-san -General suffix, can be used in most situations
-chan -Usually used for children, especially girls, and between younger women
-sama - Usually reserved for your superior or someone of higher status (or as a more polite version of "san")
-kun -Usually used for younger males, although I have heard of it used for younger females also

as for dono, I have not heard this used.

ahm that "dono" .. i've heard that word while im watching bleach .. which rukia said "kaien-dono" so many times .. that's why im asking what's the use of it??

From my dictionary :

I have heard dono used before but only in dramas dealing with periods like the Edo period and do on and it seems to be the ending between san and sama.

How do you spell the word scared? When I hear it said it sounds like kawii without the extra ii and i know kawii is cute.

two more questions: 1. whats the best way to learn how to read and write in Japanese for someone just teachin themselves. 2. Which text is commonly used...kanji or katakana

If you haven't already started learning to speak Japanese, I would start that at the same time. Best way would obviously be structured classes, but if not possible, perhaps a CD course like the Pimsleur Cd's, in conjunction with a book on writing and reading kana (hiragana and katakana) and kanji. Generally it is recommended to learn hiragana first, then katakana, then kanji.

As to what is more commonly used.... I can only go on what i've seen, but most Japanese text seems to be a mixture of kanji and hiragana, with katakana used for words that are derived from another language (which is what katakana is for, BTW). If you learn to write hiragana first, your writing will be understood by every Japanese.

-dono is abbreviated from tono , which means lord.
therefore -dono is used to convey the utmost sense of respect. ^^
but its not really used that often...you can't just go around calling people with the highest amount of respect from you. =__=

how do you say 'Its alright' if you're referring to a situation?
and how do you say 'what's wrong with you?' to somebody who looks quite troubled?

"ii desu yo!" = its alright!!
Through my observation in jdramas, normally people will ask 'are you alright?" - 'daijoubu?' or 'ii desuka?'

You could also say "Doushita no ?" which literally means "What's the mather ?".

Dono is almost like -sama, but of a higher level. In BLEACH they also used it to mean "lord" (Kaien-dono, Rukia-dono, etc.)

help is "tasuke" and for please you could add either "kudasai" or "onegashimasu" for "no problem" I think "daijobu" would be o.k.

A casual way of saying "not really" could be, "Betsu ni." Or, "Iie, betsu ni" (no, not really).

For really, you could just say "Honto?" really exaggeratedly if you think the person you're talking to said something funny.

"I am fine" would be "genki desu", , , "poor thing" I'm not real sure what you would say.
