Singapore JDrama Fans Fall In!

ProDai and Liar Game are the only interesting ones . i'm currently watching bambino , but it doesn't interest me as much . seito shokun's a little average as the storyline is a little too psycho . i'm excited about the upcoming Hana Kimi too . i'm playing the comparison game again . i'm still wondering why taiwanese dramas always appear first .

Already given up on TV. It seems that the KDrama craze will continue to reign. Nowadays I walk pass those video shops all they play are KDrama and Taiwan drama. It is getting annoying

Well, they're re-running Pride on every Saturday afternoon. I'm pretty sure that's the only time slot for Jdorama on free-to-air TV now.

Yeah.Some CD shops displayed such big advertisements on K-Drama and had like 4 or 5 full shelves delicated to it alone.But J-Drama?Not bad...only two...and nothing to indicate that that's the J-Drama column...I found it under the K-Drama section!!!

but YES i agree with zhirong! The only period of time i saw something japanese on those big display tvs was the period of deathnote-craze. Blahh and i was hoping that deathnote would bring the j-craze back to singapore. It did work a little, but the impact will simply not be big enough if jdramas are still not shown on mainstream tv at REASONABLE times i would think showing nobuta wo produce on channel 8/channel u at 7pm-8pm would do the trick XDXD Or show one litre of tears, my boss my hero, hana yori dango wdv.. And this need not necessary involve our beloved kimu taku because jdrama fans not necessary = kimu taku fans only.

it's such a pity that the most established english jdrama forum (aka this place) was started by a Singaporean whose country doesn't appreciate jdramas

yepp , true . it's like this because the fan base here is too small , they don't even have to care . and nowadays most people don't even know the names of popular japanese actors except kimu taku !

one litre of tears was shown on scv in the past together with other dramas. there used to be a time slot every weekdays 11pm for jdramas. but it seems like its not profitable for them as they stopped airing jdramas and changed to either re-air the previous jdramas or re-air the previous taiwan dramas. seems like spore has totally cut its media off jdramas. i think the only way out for us is online videos which i've been doing.

duh i don't think many would want to watch tv at 11pm -.- sigh it's a viscous cycle that's hard to break. Firstly, the limited 10-12 episodes which is normal for most jdramas (the drama might have already ended by the time people actually hear about it and decide to watch). That's why advertising is very important. But well actually, the undraggy short and sweet plots of jdramas (and also how i will not waste alot of my time if i stop watching the drama when i find out it's not worth watching) is one of the reasons why i'm attracted to jdramas and i guess people can get used to it?

Secondly, Singaporeans (esp middle-aged females) seem to be attracted to soapy, draggy, weepy storylines which they can weep over/watch for months (gosh that jiayou gyeum soon drama on channel u now is over a hundred episodes long?!). I admit that this is based on individual preference and choice. However, if the attraction for these people are the touching storylines, aren't there jdramas that are tear-jerking as well? Plus isn't more worth it to watch tear-jerkers with a more realistic base (hint hint one litre of tears)?

Thirdly, jdramas (or maybe those i watch) are mostly catered to younger audiences. Okay i'm not very sure about this since i avoid the jdramas that due with more mature themes. Even so, can't the target audience for jdramas be the younger generation then? Teenagers are attracted to cheesy taiwanese idol dramas and i'm sure jdramas (with less cheesy plots and comparable actors/actresses) would be a fresh change. (^^)

Hence, jdramas should be given more air-time over here!

i TOTALLY AGREE . watching tv at 11pm ? especially when shows like nobuta wo produce are aimed at younger audiences , why would kids want to stay late at 11pm to watch their idols ? [ perhaps me , ] actually , they did advertise alot for 'engine' , but it was slotted at 11.30pm of friday nights . who would want to watch it ? aunties ? little kiddy ? and most jdoramas really end pretty early , they think that it's no use advertising . so they just slot them at once-a-week kind of timing .

just like those singles and albums of japanese singers . they don't even BOTHER to advertise it [ perhaps ayumi and koda kumi ] , why would they want to waste time advertising ? most likely they will advertise shows starring those pop idols like wu zun and ella . duh .

usually , they don't really target at middle-age aunties . they target randomly , when the heat is up . when the k-wave came , they just go broadcast a lot of k-dramas , be it weepy or romantic or funny . it's not between whether it's tear-jerking or not , it's whether someone wants to watch it or not . now that the k-drama fan base is huge , they just go broadcast ALOT of k-dramas [ though it's dragging too long ] . looks like jdoramas have to be much better to catch their attention .

unfortunately , here comes the TW-wave . the end . the circle repeats .

by the way , maybe it's out of topic , the 'jiayou ! gyeum soon' show's not weepy at all . that girl's too irritating and straight-forward to make it weepy . i don't pity her .

Yah that's what I did, I burnt several jdorama dvd and pass it around to my colleagues at work. They loved Ichi Ritoru no Namida and now I'm psyching them to watch Nodame Cantabile and Nobuta

It may be little but who knows, your friend who like it may influence his/her friend and the interest may spark Singapore's media to once again bring in more Jdorama

You guys are pretty lucky. All my friends generally have near zero interest in jdoramas so it's really hard to get them to even try watching one. Most of them prefer watching anime more.

try harder . perhaps get them to watch shows adapted from mangas . and now that singapore has broadcast TW version of HYD and hana kimi , you can make them to watch the jdorama ; play the comparing game ! they might just love it just as they like those cheesy TW dramas .

example i got this friend who got great interest in Music/Piano so i'll intro Nodame Cantabile

I got this friend interested in Romance I'll intro Tada Kimi wo aishiteru and stuff

I got this friend interested in comedy I'll intro maybe Densha Otoko and stuff?

and there's this group is what ever drama with pretty girl they would wanna watch then I'll intro those drama with actress like Toda Erika =X like Liar Game and stuff =P

after doing this u will realise ur Japanese Drama friend circle increasing =X
