I am planning on using it for my regular everyday computer stuff and to watch my doramas.
Then what you should do is take one of your drama discs with you when checking out the LCDs... One of the problems with PC LCD monitors is that when you view stuff with a lot of motion (videos, games, etc) it looks blocky and/or unnatural, since the LCD monitor can't refresh the screen fast enough... And it varies from model to model, manufacturer to manufacturer, so bringing a video disc to view lets you judge for yourself oon what's acceptable to you.
Another problem is color fidelity: colors may appears washed out and not as rich (compared to a CRT) on an LCD... Again, you should view some high-res images and judge for yourself....

Thanks b-kun. Why is it that the newer technology always makes things more confusing to buy? Can't life just be simple?

It's not really confusing, just new.
And when it comes to consumer electronics, it's perpetually evolving: most of today's products will be obsolete/old news in six months.
Maybe today wasn't the best day to ask this question for me. Because it is very hot and very humid here and I am getting confused easily. Truth be told I don't care whether it is a LCD momitor or not I just want a flat screen monitor. Mine is really, really old and clunky!

Thank you for all of your help b-kun!
Sure thing.
I'm guessing that an LCD would be the way to go: it's considerably lighter that a comaparable CRT (~10 lbs. vs. ~40 lbs.) and nowadays probably more readily available...
I bought my 19" CRT a couple of years back and you remember the fiasco I had with it (FedEx << ), but I wanted the color fidelity... I know for sure my next monitor will be an LCD, though.

Seriously, I would have major problems finding a desk big/strong enough to support a CRT of the screen size I want. All things considering, LCDs are getting better with time.
I also don't want to lug a screen up any flight of steps.

Yup.
The graphic arts/photography-quality LCD monitors are pretty pricey, around $1000 for a 19"/20" model... Not surprisingly, the refresh rates are slow, around 15ms, but they do support 8 bits per pixel, as opposed to the typical ones with 6 bits per pixel and 8ms refresh rates.

CRT's what is that?? Do they even sell those things anymore? I feel so ghetto with my CRT at home. Everyone has LCD's now a days. But its best for video games. _________________

Why couldn't I test this out??
Swedish woman gets superfast Internet
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - She is a latecomer to the information superhighway, but 75-year-old Sigbritt Lothberg is now cruising the Internet with a dizzying speed. Lothberg's 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said.
In less than 2 seconds, Lothberg can download a full-length movie on her home computer \ many thousand times faster than most residential connections, said Hafsteinn Jonsson, head of the Karlstad city network unit.
Jonsson and Lothberg's son, Peter, worked together to install the connection.
The speed is reached using a new modulation technique that allows the sending of data between two routers placed up to 1,240 miles apart, without any transponders in between, Jonsson said.
"We wanted to show that that there are no limitations to Internet speed," he said.
Peter Lothberg, who is a networking expert, said he wanted to demonstrate the new technology while providing a computer link for his mother.
"She's a brand-new Internet user," Lothberg said by phone from California, where he lives. "She didn't even have a computer before."
His mother isn't exactly making the most of her high-speed connection. She only uses it to read Web-based newspapers. (dochira's comment-I'll give her a dialup account for this)
