Then what you should do is take one of your drama discs with you when checking out the LCDs... One of the problems with PC LCD monitors is that when you view stuff with a lot of motion (videos, games, etc) it looks blocky and/or unnatural, since the LCD monitor can't refresh the screen fast enough... And it varies from model to model, manufacturer to manufacturer, so bringing a video disc to view lets you judge for yourself oon what's acceptable to you. Smile

Another problem is color fidelity: colors may appears washed out and not as rich (compared to a CRT) on an LCD... Again, you should view some high-res images and judge for yourself.... Smile

Thanks b-kun. Smile Why is it that the newer technology always makes things more confusing to buy? Can't life just be simple?

It's not really confusing, just new. Smile

And when it comes to consumer electronics, it's perpetually evolving: most of today's products will be obsolete/old news in six months. Sweat

Maybe today wasn't the best day to ask this question for me. Because it is very hot and very humid here and I am getting confused easily. hehe Truth be told I don't care whether it is a LCD momitor or not I just want a flat screen monitor. Mine is really, really old and clunky!

Thank you for all of your help b-kun! Hug

Sure thing. Victory! Peace!

I'm guessing that an LCD would be the way to go: it's considerably lighter that a comaparable CRT (~10 lbs. vs. ~40 lbs.) and nowadays probably more readily available... Smile

I bought my 19" CRT a couple of years back and you remember the fiasco I had with it (FedEx << Grumble ), but I wanted the color fidelity... I know for sure my next monitor will be an LCD, though. Smile

Seriously, I would have major problems finding a desk big/strong enough to support a CRT of the screen size I want. All things considering, LCDs are getting better with time.

I also don't want to lug a screen up any flight of steps. Shake Head

Yup.

The graphic arts/photography-quality LCD monitors are pretty pricey, around $1000 for a 19"/20" model... Not surprisingly, the refresh rates are slow, around 15ms, but they do support 8 bits per pixel, as opposed to the typical ones with 6 bits per pixel and 8ms refresh rates.

Amen to that.

Why couldn't I test this out?? Puppy Dog Eyes Twisted

Swedish woman gets superfast Internet

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - She is a latecomer to the information superhighway, but 75-year-old Sigbritt Lothberg is now cruising the Internet with a dizzying speed. Lothberg's 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said.

In less than 2 seconds, Lothberg can download a full-length movie on her home computer \ many thousand times faster than most residential connections, said Hafsteinn Jonsson, head of the Karlstad city network unit.

Jonsson and Lothberg's son, Peter, worked together to install the connection.

The speed is reached using a new modulation technique that allows the sending of data between two routers placed up to 1,240 miles apart, without any transponders in between, Jonsson said.

"We wanted to show that that there are no limitations to Internet speed," he said.

Peter Lothberg, who is a networking expert, said he wanted to demonstrate the new technology while providing a computer link for his mother.

"She's a brand-new Internet user," Lothberg said by phone from California, where he lives. "She didn't even have a computer before."

His mother isn't exactly making the most of her high-speed connection. She only uses it to read Web-based newspapers. (dochira's comment-I'll give her a dialup account for this)

Whoa. I know I could test this too. I'd have to hire people to burn DVDs. hehe

They could've picked someone else. What's the point of testing a super fast connection when you download less than 100mb a month. Shake Head

Just got this update:
Quote:
Who is affected?
Customers who recently received software updates from McAfee
Whatfs happening?
Software updates pushed by McAfee may be causing No Browse, Sync No Surf type issues
Agent Trouble Resolution Path / Script:
1. If a customer complains of a No Browse and/or Sync No Surf type condition
2. Check if the customer has McAfee installed on their PC, and if they received any recent software updates
3. If they are not a McAfee customer or does not have McAfee installed on their PC, follow your normal troubleshooting path
for a No Browse and/or Sync No Surf condition
4. If they are McAfee Customers (software updates received or not sure), use the following script:
a. gAT&T has received the following information from McAfee – Due to a recent update of McAfee software,
customers using their products are experiencing browsing / sync no surf type issues. Please be aware that
software updates pushed by McAfee may be causing the issue. In order to restore connectivity, please go to
McAfee 'secure' website, at https://us.mcafee.com/root/fix.html. Sites beginning with https are still accessible.
Here you will find detailed instructions and an executable file which should immediately restore your access, and
fix all known issues. This is the fastest path to resolutionh
b. If the customer can get to the website, please have them follow the instructions on the website. If the customer
has any questions with regards to information on the website, or needs assistance with the fix / following
instructions on the site, please direct them to McAfeefs hot line for this issue at 1-866-628-9522
c. If the customer has issues with accessing this secure website, try another secure website, such as
https://mcafee.com
d. If the issue still exists, then the trouble condition may be a true No Browse / Sync No Surf condition, not
necessarily caused by McAfee software. Follow your normal troubleshooting path for a No Browse and/or Sync
No Surf condition
