@ Monta - hmm, I did check out the UVERworld video, but it didn't really grab my interest (the song, that is).
Maybe - like Cori - I'm not the right age for them (I'm 30!)
hwekeke. and i'm about a little over half your age. lol

So guys, what about...guys? Male vocalists, I mean - solo ones.
The only male solo artist I adore is Gackt. And I do like what Sugizo does, but he hasn't got that great a voice.
My absolute favourite male voice is that of Ryuichi Kawamura (ex-Luna Sea). His solo work is dreadful, though (the voice is great, the solo songs are sloppy dross).
Anyone got any favourites to suggest?
hmm... CHEMISTRY? they're a duo tho'. i love their songs, they've got a really nice beat and honestly, i think think they have the best voice and style in the japanese music world, the two voices blends perfectly. Hyde from Laruku? his Season's Call song was his best IMO, and Evergreen was the one that got me hooked. And don't forget Takacha, he's got a nice beat to his songs too.
come to think of it, i can count the japanese male solo singers which albums i have with my fingers. don't have many. But a lot of people like Suga Shikao, and Atari Kousuke (he has a unique voice, you like UA which i thought was also unique, so you might like him) was a young gun at one of the MusicStation episodes i saw. And Masafumi Akikawa?? Hell knows how long he was in the oricon charts, he's an opera type tho.

^ Thanks for the suggestions...none of them really grabbed me, though.
It was interesting to hear some new male solo artists, nonetheless. There really does seem to be a lot less really big male artists than females.
Masafumi Akikawa - checking him out on YouTube was the first time I had heard a Japanese opera singer! He has a good voice - but I don't like opera.
Oh, I like one of Hyde's songs, "Hello". But I haven't been impressed with anything else I've heard of his.

Try Hirai Ken. He's on the pop side, but he had a bunch of R&B songs in The Changing Same and Gaining through losing albums. He does a lot of ballads as well.
Yonekura Toshinori is also on the pop R&B side. If you're a girl, he's also eyecandy during his recent years.
ISSA (lead singer of DA PUMP) had a really great solo career (imo) with songs that ranged from R&B to pop to rock. That, plus he has a great voice and is easy on the eyes too.
And too bad you don't like Suga Shikao. He's one of my favorite artists. Check out the songs 19sai, Kiseki, & Natsukage.
There are other artists I recommend, but I don't have time to list them. Is there a specific genre that you like better? _________________

Again, I had an interesting time checking out these artists on YouTube. Thank you.
But they weren't my taste really.
Unfortunately, I really don't like R 'n' B at all. So anything along those lines is not something I'll be a fan of.

I would say my favourite genres are pop and rock.
Oh good, that narrows things down.
As for suggestions, try:
SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH - piano rock. His music is pretty fun. I first encountered him through the song "Astaire" and that remains my favorite.
Kiyokiba Shunsuke - He was part of the pop/R&B group EXILE, but he left to pursue a solo career. His solo music is more on the acoustic-pop side.
Tachibana Keita is another person with a solo career. He's part of the boyband w-inds., but his solo album is more on the acoustic-pop side too. I don't really like w-inds., but I found myself enjoying his music a lot.
Def Tech is a duo and their music is a fusion of Japanese and Hawaiian music. "Pacific Island Music" is a fun, upbeat song. My friends aren't really into Jpop, but they really like that song.
Hopefully these suggestions are a bit better than the other artists I mentioned. _________________
i like SUEMITSU& THE SUEMITH. he is piano rock, but the reason i like him is because of his piano playing. if what you meant was a rock-coloured voice, he doesn't have it. so i guess he is pop and rock, lol. try his song Allegro Cantabile, it's the ending song for Nodame Cantabile anime.
oh, and don't forget K. i like him
and Micro of DefTech has a new solo album out, Laid Back. if you wanna check that one out
oh, have you heard Dragon Ash's new song, Wipe Your Eyes, feat. Kaori Mochida from ELT ? i love it. well, i always had a spot for collaborations. i even like Shibasaki Kou's weird song with the Damashii Group _________________

Cori and Monta - thank you for your many suggestions! I've yet to fully explore all the artists you mentioned, but I've done a bit of listening. I'll get back to you on my findings soon...

ItLs quite nice, you can listen to some songs and they suggest similar sounding bands.
I know you were replying to Monta, but I've just listened to the samples of Quruli on Last.fm, and even with only 2 30-second samples, I think I am going to like them a lot.

hmmm... i was wondering. since each week there's so many releases and of course some of us doesn't want to download songs that they wont even listen to, how bout we do reviews on new releases? so we can know which are worth downloading
anyway, Keps, you said you were lookin for male solos and you like rock, one of this week's release has Kazuya Yoshii. he's the vocalist of the band The Yellow Monkey (who did the song Tactics for anime Rurouni Kenshin ( Samurai X )) that broke up a couple o years ago.
i won't say i enjoyed his new single, it's just it seems like he changed his way of singing. he sounds drunk! .but it has good music
but one i would definitely recommend, L'arc en Ciel's MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM. it's so soft, but not losing it's 'rock' feel... very nice.
EstherM, is it just me, or Quruli really sounds like ASIAN KUNG-FU FIGHTING GENERATION? _________________

...I didn't like what I've heard of The Yellow Monkey or Kazuya Yoshii.
Sorry Monta.
They didn't sound bad - just not for me.
What little I've heard of Quruli and Asian Kung-Fu Generation, they didn't really sound alike.
@ Esther - you were right in the music download thread that Quruli albums are difficult to get in Europe.
Is anyone else amazed at the news that Luna Sea are playing together again? They will be playing at Tokyo Dome on December 24th. But that's it - they won't be doing anything together after that. Boo.
I love love love Luna Sea - I wish I could be there at Tokyo Dome.

Luna Sea is still alive? too old for me, not my taste
anyway, heard of Stephanie yet? she only has 2 single albums. her voice is like 'wow' she can sing 5 octaves _________________
