besides the fact that they are a singing group i know 0 about them.

it is still shocking that there is no law in Japan about that. Also i would have thought that in general Japan would have been much more strict on pornography and prostitution. Just like they are with gambeling (i heard it is illegal in Japan)

Lol. Sorry, it was my poor attempt at a joke.

Unfortunately, that's not so. If you look at Japanese pop culture (especially in TV shows and anime), there are lots of references to porn and all that. I remember watching a documentary about the Red Light District in Tokyo. It was....an eye opener.

the red light district in Shinjuku, Kabuki-cho, is all around, with hostess bars and such.
They are quite open to the sexuality due to the repression, it just comes out in the manga, advertisments, feeding into the male dominant society, or something close to that. sex is all around in Japan, reserved yet, very sexual in subtle or direct ways. Just look at the advertisments there, and AV(adult video) shops, just steps away from the trainstations.

"Porn" has a negative connotation. Maybe you really do distinguish between pornography and unprudish attributes. But the sexual intensity is one reason I like Japan so much. Plus, it's OK for us older guys to bask in the ardor of idols half, or even one-third, our age as is the case of Morning Musume's Miracle member Koharu-chan. Bonk Smitten Drooling Dead

the pervertisnm...if that is such a word, is so great, there is different levels of it on a weird sick, twisted, funny, odd sort of way.
It is just look upon with a quick turn of the shoulder, i didn't see it sort of way, in its most extreme to semi-extreme ways.

Porn does have a negative connotation, but to a much higher degree in some instance here in the states, despite it being a billion dollar industry here. I think it is more open there, and porn shops are looked as very dirty here, in seedy areas as such. But in Japan, it almost looks glamourous, the way it is presented. How should i say, porn in its most subtle way is just more accepted in Japan and not as shunned out as it is here, but in a more hidden sort of way.

as far as young idols, it is just accepted, and it is not unusual to see a jr idol on the cover of magazines. Girl groups such as Morning Musume, Berryz Koubo, do have younger girls in the group, ages range from 10 to 21. Youth in Japan is thought as something desired, energetic, free, innocence, something idolized in a way. These idols, range from bikini idols, to adult idols, to actresses, are on almost every medium from magazines, to trading cards, to posters, to venturing to a music career as singers, to fanclub, to....you seem to get the idea here. It is not looked upon as negatively as it is here in the states, of liking a younger movie star, singer, model, thus, Japanese idol.

I must admit that with the ban on pubic hair, it seems to me that can only encourage the undesirable desire for the underage. Sweat

Are the over 18 animes considered pornography too? hehe

Hentai, i think would be considered pornography even though it is animated. Some of what they show is just disturbing. I dont see the joy in watching someone get raped by an alien or monster. Maybe it is because I am a girl but what is the joy in seeing a demon rape a girl?

I watched a police drama a few months ago, and 2 guys were watching rape vids, to find out if they were actors or real. So, they produce and sell those too... Crazy

IIRC, they corrected the law less than 5 years ago. I think the legal age is 16 or 17. If you're 35, you'll probably end up in jail anyway, unless you give the girl's cellphone number to the judge. Bleah

I think the drama you were watching was Ikebukuro West Gate Park right? I saw that one where Watanabe Ken (awsome actor, was a cop in the drama) and the other guy were looking through a stack of pornography and the other guy was telling Watanabe that they are fake but then he stopped and said no those were real[/quote]

This thread is so full of misinformation that it's almost funny. I think the OP must be a troll. If what he posted first were true, you would have read about it first in the news or elsewhere, not here in a drama forum of all places. Shake Head

Could he be jealous that Japan exports mostly high tech, high value goods and has become the 2nd largest economy in the world without much natural resources while the Phillipines exports mostly low skilled service workers despite having a lot of natural resources.

The fact is Japan does not have a Judeo-Christian tradition nor the sexual repression that comes with that tradition.
As an American, I know how hung up about sex the U.S. is. It's unnatural. Just look at Bush. Clinton was smarter and knew what sex was all about but he was almost impeached for it!! Bush is dumb and has done much, much worse but he's still doing business as usual.

But that's the U.S., back to Japan. Japan is a sensual place. Before the war, mixed bathing was very common. It wasn't considered sexual. It was just bathing.
After the U.S. won, McArthur banned that practice, since his upbringing regarded it as sexual, and banned prostitution as well. But prostitution was never considered a high calling, it was just accepted as a fact of life.
(Sakuran was fake. Most prostitutes at Yoshiwara killed themselves at a young age. The woman provided to the first U.S. Ambassador to Japan also killed herself, after her "duty" was finished.)

FACT: Sex in public is not allowed in Japan, neither morally or legally. You will get your ass hauled off to jail, if you try it when you get here.
(and don't email me for help after that happens--Just get used to a diet of rice and miso soup for awhile.)
About a year ago, a cameraman and an "actress" were arrested in Yokohama because she was walking around town in the nude and he was filming her. A couple of passer bys saw this and quickly reported it to the police (but not before taking their own pictures with their cell phones.) FACT: Other perverts
have been arrested for trying to take pictures up women's skirts at train stations. FACT: Others have been arrested for breaking the child prostitution law
(you are considered a minor until the age of 20--however sex between minors over the age of 16 is not a crime) FACT: Some people, such as the OP, like to feed the "Japan is Weird" perception for some perverse reason or other. FACT: All countries are weird, don't get me started. Twisted

One more fact: Japan has a strict anti-stalking law so watch out if you try to follow your favorite celebrity while in town. Naughty

Hi Daichi Kai

I didn't get the impression that don wanted this thread locked. He was trying his best to give us all the correct information on this subject. His post was very informative. Thanks don! If anyone is going to discuss a subject they should try to get their facts straight before posting them. Also if their information is wrong they should try to learn from their misconceptions. We can all learn more about each other's cultures if we keep an open mind, stop all the name calling and get accurate information. Victory! Peace!

I wouldn't worry about B-san's guns here. There are more men than women on the JD board so I would think that the one thread that would definitely stay open would be the Japanese porn thread. Wink Bleah

you're talking like you're a racist huh...

first of all, Filipinos are not low-skilled!
it's like saying the White House head chef is low skilled? whoa... think again buddy... Nicole of PCD low-skilled? absolutely not... Batista, Billy Crowford, Apl de Ap being low-skilled? better think twice, thrice, or more than that buddy... Shake Head

Filipinos are the most hardworking people in the world, and without you noticing, Filipinos are everywhere around the globe!

sorry for being off-topic but i was hurt when i saw this reply...

the one who started this thread didn't have the intention to insult the Japanese... his/her point was that he/she only noticed how large pornography in Japan is... religion or any other things are out of the topic here... he/she is not jealous of something/anything...

Philippines is already a developing country so don't you insult our beloved country...

KUDOS TO ALL PINOYS OUT THERE...

i love japan, it helped me to live for 16 years and going. the most precious people to me are japanese. that's why i want to clarify this issue, i just want to get some point of view, so i could defend japan the next time a friend of mine accused them as being perverted race.
