I saw 2 before I saw 1 so I like 2 best even though the story was pretty similar. As far as favorite character, Nakama Yukie or Hayami Mokomichi, I've seen both in several roles.

Minna-san, Konnichiwa,

A Yukie Nakama fan here!
I've seen Gokusen the anime and also the live action 1 and 2.
The choice of which is better actually depends on your personality.
I strongly recommend that you watch Gokusen 1, then 2, then the anime.

Gokusen 1 was quite well-polished. This was because it had to attract the general public (which it did with flying colors in Japan), and being the first time, they had to play safe (you'll know why later). Gokusen 1 had mass appeal, and Yukie Nakama and Jun Matsumoto were casted for that purpose. Gokusen 1 is a great introduction, and warms you up for the addiction to the story.

Gokusen 2 built on the success of Gokusen 1. Unfortunately, the story wasn't given much thought, as they focused more on star power and ratings (despite the repetitive storyline, it garnered more ratings in Japan than Gokusen 1). Although at times mediocre, it still has some good twists.

Gokusen Anime goes back to the raw, more original roots of the story. Yankumi is definitely and obviously Yakuza in this treatment, and the humor is way,way better than live action. It shows a more clear-cut gangster life than the blurry description of the live action series. You should watch this last because it gives you the best perspective.

I hope this can help you guys out.

Yeah I really liked the anime, I think more than the show. I was surprised since I'm a Yukie fan so figured the show would be the best. I think as far as the anime it was Yamaguchi's dog that got me hooked. Now I have to look for the manga.

Majority in this forum said Gokusen 2 was not so great compared to Gokusen 1 becoz of the story seem like copycat of Gokusen 1 (but with different actor/actress). I still not watching Gokusen 2 yet but I will, but after completed watching Gokusen 1, I can say that Gokusen 1 was not that great compare to GTO!

GTO is so much better jdrama series with bigger conflict, funny, better plot, strong script, great actors/actress, highly motivated, somehow matured (so not suitable enough for below 13yo that I'm not suprised they not love it!) and more emotional scene than Gokusen 1. (I'm still addicted to it & been watchin couple hundred time already!) GTO's only weakness i think were it less funny scene in the series than Gokusen 1 and too many changes that were not supposed too from the anime and manga.

Gokusen 1 more comically funny scenes (sometime hilarious!) than GTO, the sad scene is great and the character development most of the scene somehow better than GTO. My fav episode r 7 & 10. But after finish watching all of it, I still feel emptiness and not so motivated compare to GTO although they also have great actress & actor in Samada Yukie (so cute & pretty, if I go to Japan I want to kiss er meet her 1st), Matsu-Jun (potential 'sasuke') & most of 3D class & also the teachers. (I think the most funnier character is the head teacher). So I don't blame them.

Seriously, some of the episode in Gokusen 1 were boring and i pushed myself to finish watching it especially when the comedy is not funny! Maybe one other reason is the Gokusen 1 was too childish! The other reason maybe becoz of the plot or script too ordinary or repeatedly compare to GTO!

Eg. They always 'walkin & running together' in most of the plot. What I mean is like when director/script told that 1 2 3 then walk or run together, and they doing it together and it look somehow stiff & sux to me I don't know why! (If u not understand, PM me).

Also, I'm not saying that becoz of the Gokusen 1 is the woman version of GTO and I don't really care about that. The story are so different than GTO and Gokusen had its own great style of story telling! If I gave 1 to 10, I rate GTO 9/10 and Gokusen 1 slightly less with 8/10. That's my final opinion. hehe

I love both season 1 and 2.
I'm a big fan of Matsumoto Jun and Koike Teppei..

As for Nakama Yuki, i remember her as a cast of Ringu (The Ring 0),
where she played the role of "good half" Sadako.

That's all.Big Grin

oh my this must be a very good news to all Gokusen live action fans out there LOL.. hehe

"Gokusen 3" confirmed for spring

Rumors of a third season of the "Gokusen" drama series were confirmed on Wednesday. Yukie Nakama will reprise her role as the teacher Kumiko Yamaguchi (affectionately known as "Yankumi").

Based on a manga by Kozueko Morimoto, "Gokusen" has already had two previous seasons. The first, in 2002, averaged ratings of 17.4%, while the 2005 sequel averaged ratings of 28.0%.

The third series will premiere in April on NTV, though the specific time slot has not yet been announced. Casting for the students will be decided around the end of this year.
