I don't think that looks matters if the actor is talented or charismatic enough (hello, Kinpachi Sensei in 101 Proposals). I've only seen Shiina Kippei in a few dramas (Seikei Bijin, Over Time, Sweet Season, and some others where he was just forgettable in) and in all of them he was just unlikeable and had no personality to me. To be fair, it may have been "the other man" roles he played.

Maybe if this guy had more appealing roles, I might change my mind, but for now, I also think that he's a lump, as runpup said.

You should watch him in Antique. I thought the same as you until I saw him in that role. He was BRILLIANT!

It wasn't his looks that turned me off Shiina Kippei in Seikei Bijin: I just didn't think he had much chemistry with Ryoko-chan. But she shone so brightly that she overshadowed everyone else anyhow.

Yea, that's exactly what I thought. It wasn't his looks, but moreso he wasn't convincing at all.

Now that I'm done with Shotgun Marriage, next in line is Satorare.

Maybe that'll be on my next to trade for/buy list. I need to see why this guy gets jobs! Bleah

On topic: Just finished the 4th episode of Iguana no Musume. Such a cute drama. In love

I'm one of those people who doesn't mind Tackey, nor am I a fangirl. I think I'm a rare one, eh? hehe

The first thing I saw Kippei Shiina in was Seikei Bijin, and I thought he was a stiff. Then I saw him in Over Time where he was the bad guy, and I was developing a pretty good dislike for him as an actor.

But then I saw Antique, and the even better "You like it Hot?" and my opinion of him completely flipped around. Now I'll actually go to some trouble to get shows or movies like "Drowning Fish" because he's in them.

That's the thing about actors as opposed to pop stars. With pop stars you get what you see. You like them... you think they are pretty or you don't.

With actors, especially actors who work a lot, over a long period of time... it's never a good idea to judge them on one or two shows. They'll fool you. It's their job.

Arigato, Geez-san! You said what I was trying to say so much better! Hmmm... I haven't seen Over Time tho... >>writes it down<<

@Cori: I have Antique (thanks eve!) if you want it. It can be part of our large trade deal. Deal!

On Topic: I'm already on epi 3 of Satorare. This drama is so funny, and Joe is grand. It's a little predictable right now, but it's also heartwarming. I'm off now to watch the third epi.

Wynter,

Over Time is a big time major must see.

My copy isn't great, but if you can't download it shoot me a pm. I think the post office delivers to Canada.

Yeah, Sensei, like Geezer said, this is a keeper. Great casting with Sorimachi and Makiko Esumi.

Geezer: I think I really should check out those Shiina Kippei dramas that you mentioned. If your opinion changed because of them, then maybe mine will too. And I'll be sure to watch them with an open mind so I don't prejudge him.

I just PM'ed you with the request for Antique. Big Grin And I think by the sound of it I have the same Over Time copy as Geezer (tv capture, average quality, but still watchable), so if you want to add that to your list, let me know.

Arigato, Geez-san! I think I'll get it from Cori since she's already sending me a few dramas. I tried looking for it at the places I download but none have it. I'm getting excited about it because a) it's a pre-2000 drama and I'm aching to collect them, and b) Sorimachi. In love

On Topic: Epi four of Satorare. I'm really enjoying this drama!

O! Ishida Yuriko is in Over Time as well! I just finished watching her in Shotgun Marriage (and she was in Pride, too, eh?). She's grand.

On Topic: Satorare epi 5. I think I'll stay up all night and finish this one. Victory! Peace!

She's okay..but nothing great...she was in SOS too...she never stands out but plays the second banana often times...She was cool in those shows but she doesn't stand out IMHO. She has a had a long, storied career though i will admit.

edit: her character was funny in Oyaji Smile

Hmmmm... she didn't really stand out in Pride, but I did enjoy her in Shotgun Marriage. Her and Abe were a great pair.

On Topic: Epi 6 of Satorare.
