Well they're writing their own script instead of following the manga as in season 1 so Fingers crossed

"Galileo" premiere gets 24.7%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first episode of "Galileo," starring Masaharu Fukuyama and Kou Shibasaki, aired on Monday night. The broadcast pulled in a 24.7% viewership rating, beating out last Thursday's premiere of "Iryu 2" (21.0%). Both shows are in the top three starts of the year, surpassed only by the winter series "Karei Naru Ichizoku" (27.7%), which starred Takuya Kimura.

"Galileo" is Fuji TV's first "Getsu 9" drama to break 20% with the opening episode since the first half of 2006, when the network aired "Saiyuki" (29.2%) and "Top Caster" (23.1%).

Nobody has stepped up to actually do the subs yet, but if the show is as popular as it's looking and keeps these numbers decently coming, I wouldn't be surprised if someone is thrown in there (though not their style of drama, SARS seems kinda free to do it, lol).

EDIT: Appears someone did, though it's a group aptly named 'Newbie-Forever'. I've never heard or seen any of their work, so let's just see how quick and efficient this team (or person as that seems to be the norm now in the subbing world) is with the series.

EDIT 2: AWESOME, I CALLED IT! SARS is doing the hard subs for the series...of course I think this means that Newbie-Forever is going to drop off. That's one thing I don't like about that team, though they are decent in speed and quality, they always seem to step on people's toes...

He might still be doing softsubs... More fansubber these days, we're starting to see multiple versions of subs. This person used to translate Korean dramas and doesn't seem to speak fluent English anyway...

Non-SMAP Johnny's generally don't hit decent ratings Rolling eyes
I bet they do get very high ratings within their target demographics though Sweat

i dunno, fukuyama masaharu and kou shibasaki being in galileo probably also contributed to the high ratings. if there were no kimura takuya the one winning all those anan rankings would be fukuyama.

I was just saying young Johnny's in general aren't known for high ratings. Only doramas starring SMAP members are auto-high ratings hehe
There are few exceptions like HYD and MBMH, but there are much more flops than hits.

Fukuyama Masaharu got numbers from beginning, and he hasn't been in a dorama for years, so I bet a lot of people tuned in for him. And Shibasaki Kou... Nothing with her in main roles have ever flopped yet Naughty

That's an accurate appraisal, I'd say.

Congrats to 'Galileo'. Some people on d-addicts seemed not very impressed by the plot in ep. 1, yet marvelled at its brilliance only after 2nd viewing (or on 2nd thought). IMO a good howdunit is much more difficult to write than a good whodunit because it usually requires some kind of domain knowledge. As a mystery buff, I've pretty much read/watched all the popular American, English, and Japanese mystery novels/'TV series' out there since elementary school. By far my favorite mysteries of all time are still the ones in the TV series 'Banacek' (extremely clever howdunits involving thefts of very unusual items).

Why am I not surprised that you brought up Banacak again? Wink

Looking forward to this series... If the subs show up. Sweat

Hatachi = dead T.T

I'm personally enjoying the series... Akashiya Sanma will always be the best comedian actor for me!
I used to love Nagasawa Masami, but I don't know... I'm starting to get sick of her because she's always the same in every single series Doh!

I'm kind of surprised Hataraki Man's rating has such an average pattern. I'm absolutely LOVING this series. The acting, direction, humor, music... All perfect. Somewhat average story, but it's probably my favorite conclusion-per-episode series I've seen so far, even better than HERO. I'm totally obsessed with Kanno Miho right now In love
Still hoping for that big jump near the finale.
