He was born in Houston, USA and died, at age 61, at a Tokyo blues club. Everyone from Etta James to Frank Zappa (source: http://www.rockabillyhall.com/JohnnyWatson.html) cited Watson as an influence. Now how's THAT for "internationality"?

Sure, Sting's okay but what about Devastatin' Dave the Turntable Slave?
Ahh, yes, Sting. Thanks for that, BMWRacer. Sting is THE most overlooked contemporary classic pop (too many adjectives? Well, they're all true designations for the ex-Policer); I shoulda' wrote my Congressman when Sting's Ten Summoners' Tales lost out to The Bodyguard soundtrack for Grammy's "Album of the Year" award.
But, shotgun_divorce gets the biggest thanks (that deserves a second image) for the Marvel Comics' rejected super hero costume-wearin' Devastatin' Dave the Turntable Slave. Thanks for sharing, and keep reaching for the stars.
