I think many pieces are missing on the OST, which is quite annoying and peculiar for Drama OSTs are often packed with music. There are only the "recurring" themes, in fact, such as "Tantei Galileo" or "Moeru" (which appears at least in ep1 and ep6)...
Are you sure they're not music from other soundtracks or stock classical music? Afterall, SP (the other drama for which he wrote the score) includes some stock classical music as well. Another example in this season's drama is Mop Girl, which also used a lot of stock classical music (for the past 2 episodes). I found it interesting that they used the Bach-Gounod's Ave Maria in ep. 7 but Shubert's version in ep. 8.

As you seem to like Sawano Hiroyuki's music, you should listen to his recent score for the anime Gigantic Formula.
Thx, I'll check that out.

I am not sure at all, I am not that conversant with classical music, but it didn't "seem" classical. Other soundtracks, perhaps... Now that you mention it, I find this recent habit to (mis)use classical music in dramas quite annoying. Is it a Nodame after-effect?
As for Mop Girl, I don't know yet but anyway, the original score is not that impressive...

You are welcome. Sawano-san is one of my favorites, and his recent involvement in anime music is quite interesting, albeit not always excellent. It is interesting to note that some composers shift from anime to drama (such as Hattori Takayuki) and others from drama to anime.

Good example is SP, where some pieces like Berlioz's and Brahms's were underwhelming while others like the Shostakovic's symphonies were simply over-powering the scenes imo (we're talking about a few terrorists here, not a battle of epic proportion).

I actually like the catchy 'action' theme, and would probably buy the soundtrack on that alone. The stock classical music used were all the pretty popular ones as I recognized most of them, and they're all well chosen (they added a background vocal mix to Beethoven's piano sonata (1st movement of Moonlight), which I thought was very well done).
Talking about 'pompous' and over-the-top scores, have you watched any episodes of Swan no Baka?

Well, I would also like to have Mop Girl OST, for I have a soft spot for Yoshikawa Kei. As for Swan no baka, I haven't seen any episode (no subs available, alas) but insofar as it was composed by Sahashi Toshihiko, I expected either something like Koi ni oichitara (which is also quite pompous and over-the-top, for a drama about a man struggling with menial tasks in a big company), or something of lesser impact such as Hanayome to Papa. But... I will certainly grab the OST if it becomes available, because, out of context, Sahashi-san's music is often interesting
Finally, regarding the usage of classical music, it is of course a matter of good sense: if the person who selects the cues is intelligent and has taste, his choice can be relevant; if it is only to "fill gaps", it may result in a catastrophe.

Since it is released today, I officially (albeit humbly and thanking profusely in advance) request Abarenbo Mama OST
I re-discovered yesterday Shota no sushi OST (in the back of my CD drawer), and I thought: "So much skill gained since then...!", even though that score was quite good...

The theme I mentioned around 33:50 of ep. 7 was played again in ep. 8 around 19:08; except this time it's a different arrangement played w/ classical guitar only, so there's a good chance that it's indeed an original and one of the pieces missing in the OST...

I have it on order and will get it, hopefully, at the end of next week.

That's nice. Do you think you can rip and upload it?
