hhmm... i guess Fuji TV owns the throne this season huh? the 3 highest ranked doramas are aired in Fuji TV
well, they deserve it. i'd love to watch SP if i can get my hands on it, but Galileo and Iryu2 is definitely already on my list . can't wait to watch 'em _________________
so far the ratings for this season are really low, only Galileo, Iryu and SP are getting decent ratings. well most of the dramas are bad, no wonder these numbers are low.[/url]

Sadly I'd have to agree. Iryu 2 is riding mostly on the fact it's a sequel to a really good series, and while there are some real gems out there being ignored by the general population of Japan (Utahime and Mop Girl, I'm looking at YOU), the rest are...eh.
Out of all the series I've been watching, the only ones that'll probably be lingering on for even a hope for a sequel are Galileo (technically the movie already guarantees this), Iryu (hey, you never know), and MAYBE SP. The rest, while possibly decent, just aren't getting the kind of drawing power that TV execs look at to bring a show back.
the ratings of Galileo fell to 19.9 because of the baseball game in TV Asahi, but its still the second highest rated show in that timeslot.

In short...yes. The low-end ones feel like ripoffs of previous classic dramas to be quite honest. I'm sure if I took the time, I could point out each one, but I've got shows to watch, so .

Actually Mop Girl, and SP even more, are described as successes in the Japanese press. Their ratings are high for a late time slot.
They are so-so at best, definitely not successes
One common misconception of ratings are that they represent the population (i.e. 20% of people in Japan were watching Galileo between 9 and 10PM) which is totally wrong.
Ratings only represent the average (of the duration of that show) percentage of maybe couple of thousand TVs by Nielsen (or whatever organization gathering info) sampling systems attached that were actually turned on were tuned in to that channel. This includes recording devices, which needs to tune in even though no one is watching.
If 200 out of 1000 people were watching Galileo it would get 20%.
Even if only 20 out of 100 saw a late night dorama, it would still record 20% in ratings.
All ratings of all TV stations combined always equal to 100%.
Just because it's on a late time slot is not an excuse for garbage ratings like 7% for a major national TV station. But it should be lower because people usually watch more news etc than dorama in that hour due to habit. That article must have been written in earlier episodes when they were still in acceptable ratings.
Quality of competing programs usually affect ratings the most, like that baseball game, which probably grabbed a lot of Galileo viewers away. We say some time slots are worse than others because competing shows might be tougher on different days of week, but late night... It's usually routine vs news and reruns.

The Japanese press says it's good, the Japanese fans on 2ch say that Mop Girl is doing good. (They said beforehand that anything over 8% would be nice.) So who do you think I'm going to listen to, you or the locals?

Obviously me, because I'm don't get paid by the TV stations to write positive reviews and I don't go around writing random crap on smurfed ID that changes every day.
Like seriously, have you ever seen "____ is a flop dorama, this series is horrible" in articles from legit sources? Ones usually covers dorama are magazines affiliated with the TV station itself or TV guides.
Best way to find out is getting the numbers yourself, ANB23 reaches 10% like every other season and goes as high as 14%, absolute flops are 7%. 10% is average.
SP is a success for sure though, rating-wise. Just because of it reaching over 15% further shows that late time-slot is not an excuse for crappy ratings.
Utahime is on Friday night, but that timeslot has been proven before to be capable of high ratings.

Video Research Ltd. has published a top 10 list of the highest-rated television dramas this year. The list includes both tanpatsu and renzoku dramas, though only the top episode counted for the latter.
#1 was the final episode of "Karei Naru Ichizoku" (30.4%), which starred Takuya Kimura and other popular celebrities. TBS ran the show during the winter, the same season it aired "Hana Yori Dango 2," which ranked #2 with its finale (27.6%). NTV also had a hit that season with "Haken no Hinkaku," whose closer was third on the list at 26.0%.
"Dondo Bare" was #4 (24.8%), slightly ahead of the "Galileo" opener (24.7%). #6 was the first part of the Seicho Matsumoto adaptation "Ten to Sen" that marked Beat Takeshi's return to TV drama.
In August, NTV aired "Kimi ga Kureta Natsu" as part of its "24 Hour Television" charity program, and the starring pair of Hideaki Takizawa and Kyoko Fukada brought in ratings of 23.3%.
The February 4 episode of "Fuurinkazan" scored 22.9% to rank 8th on the list. This was followed by Fuji TV's repeat of the "HERO Special" in September (22.1%). The "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e" finale and the "Iryu 2" premiere tied for 10th with 21.0% ratings.
