Actually, this album was a birthday-present to one of the Gundam-creators because Gackt is just a big fanboy
But the album isn't actually that bad.
Because I'm lazy, I'm just going to copy my jpm-post here
I just wrote my review for the album.
And actually ended up praising it. I, who normally can find many critical points in everything
Shocked myself too ^^
To put the two pages short, the positive feeling came from
a) the fact that the covers are awesome
b) the big, big nostalgy-feeling I got from the 'old' songs.
Ai Senshi has got more sidekicks that I can, and/or want, to count, but somehow it still can hold itself together. The arrangement is good, it's nice to have a "normal" rocksong. And this works live too, as we've seen, so no probs at all. A good track.
As for the old ones,
Kimi ga Matteiru kara's got my heart beating and
Love Letter sounds ok too. It's been ages since I listened to LL last time. Basic Gackt-ballad. Even if I like
Last Song more.
Others go.
Dybbuk has never got me on album (it needs the live-aspect), but it.. goes with the flow here.
Suna no Juujika ~Interlude~ was a general surprise. I mean the fact that it came out as an instrumental track.
The first reaction I had was like.. "eeh!? first we only get an oldie/cover-album and now even one of the 'new' tracks hasn't got vocals", and I really disliked the original version of this so it'd been interesting to hear how Gackt'd do it.. but now when listened to it... I'm so not complaining.
And it's like.. God,
Chacha, I love you. You should give this a (big) chance, and if you like it, go and try some Gerard/Vienna -music. They're somehow alike ^^ Wonder why..
(Yes, it's the loyal prog-fan in me (: )
Meguriai. You get a short comment at first: HOMG this is awesome!
All hail Chacha and Gackt.
I mean, the beginning with the piano and dark, held-back vocals promised good. But when the song actually started at about 1:20, I was about to drop dead to the floor.
Is this like... probably the most genious arrangement of 2007? Likely to even surpass
ABC's Black Cherry. And that's A LOT said from me.
And did you notice? Halfway through the Meguriai we get to hear how Gackt really uses his voice and gets even more colours into it.
I think it's the first time after the nose-operation that we hear him really using his vocal chords this way. And it gets me ecstatic for the future releases!
So I'm just saying.. Even if this isn't the best possible release from a Gackt-fan's point of view, it's a good album.
And nostalgic.
Gives me a feeling, that "now that this is done, there's most definetely time for a totally new album to come out".
