Ah, I see.
I don't know of a solution, if the firewall is not under your control to allow you to forward the BT ports. The BT faq has info on ports and proxies:

Highly recommend ABC client. Built on top of SHADOW's experimental client, it also manages multiple downloads in a single window.

I put my vote for ABC also. I use that but I have no idea if it can get through firewalls. I havent had any trouble with it so I recommend it to anyone

hopefully this isnt old news..
anyway,
torrent search basically searches for active torrents, not a bad program on the whole - and its free
enjoy
OH BTW... when you install it will install torrent serach, another installation box will come up with the name "Qutrit Personal Search Assistant', dont install it, is spyware (bad for your com).
i couldnt find the official site, but this one seems decent
Its only 500kb so it wont take too long

hopefully all of my info is correct, and not everyone knows about this..

Then I guess we can leave it up to one who is more familiar with BitTorrent.

hi all.
i have BitTornado as my BT client. I'm kinda tired of all multiple windows i get from that client when i'm DL/seeding/uploading, not to mention all the resourses it takes up, so i wanted to try either TorrentSTorm or ABC. I've dl'ed both .exe's and tried out a torrent from d-addicts. on both the clients, i get a "unable to connect" error. when i reverted back to to BitTornado client, it seeded without problem. i've since tried a bunch of torrent files and they all give me that can't connect error. can anyone let me know whats going on?
(incidently, i've tried azureus and that is not an option b/c it uses SO much resources, it slowed my machine to the point of ALMOST locking up.)
Much appreciated and Thx in advance!

It sounds like your PC is fine to me, it has plenty of power. Also, if you sometimes get good speeds, but not other times, the problem is not likely to be your setup, but it is probably that the other clients in the swarm are not performing well for whatever reason. There's not much you can do to increase speed if the uploaders are going slowly.
One other thing to check is if your upload bandwidth is saturated. If so, that could slow down your d/l bandwidth to a crawl.

If BitTornado works, but ABC doesn't, I would first suspect configuration problems in ABC, as ABC is based on some of the BitTornado code.
Can you check configuration options between the 2 clients to make sure that ABC is configured as much like your BitTornado client as possible?

How do you check that? I think I have my upload speeds set not very high. Is there a tool that can analyze your settings?

Is this a general line speed test...or a bittorent application speed test? I had assumed from the previous post, that they were referring to the bittorent upload speeds (not my DSL in general)...though maybe I misinterpreted.

No I'm pretty sure they are referring to your DSL upload speed. BT upload speeds will go as high as your connection can support given there are enough peers etc.
