What's the meaning of your class name?
How come your map is in colour? Is that another mod?
Mine's just sort of varying shades of brown...
Can I have mods on my PS3, I wonder?
Glad you enjoyed the screenshots.
The class name really means nothing in the context of Oblivion. It is a bit hard to explain. The name Alita is the English name given to the main character in the original Japanese manga called Gunnm. The original Japanese translates into "Gun Dream". So when you create a custom class, the game will ask you for a class name and I just put in the original Japanese name that my character comes from.
The map screen is a combination of 3 mods. One is the colored map. One makes the visible map area much larger than default and makes the font smaller. The third results in colored icons on the map. It seems the forum shrunk the pics. It's clearer in the original screenshot. I'm not sure if you can mod the console version of Oblivion.
My current armor is Dwarven armor. You, too, will see it as you level up. It's heavy but more durable. I'm still looking for some Ebony armor.
Edit: I'm trying some new armor mods:
New Dwarven: Nice looking for the female form perhaps, but not really very protective....

Madoka, thanks for more superb pictures!
Lol at the "Jpop" star - she does look like she could be a star.
I'm so jealous of all the stuff you can do with mods - and you confirmed what I suspected - no mods for me.
I think that map is much better than the default one. The larger area covered, in particular, would be useful. I seem to spend lots of time scrolling my map to see what's what. (I know a map comes with the game, but it can't show your location).
I can see you have discovered a lot more places than me.
Ah, I really want that Dwarven armour for my character. It looks fabulous. I don't care about protectiveness - give me style, dammit.
Ooh, thanks for the hint about silver weapons! I haven't come across any yet, though.
I spent yesterday killing people with my shocking touch and my cold touch. They are really cool spells! One of them (can't remember which) kills people with just 2 or 3 touches.
Thanks for explaining a bit about your name, btw. I was really curious.

Squeeee! Madoka, that's really funny, the schoolgirl mod! Mind you, I wouldn't want to play like that - would you? It would kind of ruin the atmosphere of the game for me, I think.
Huh! Why am I not surprised default armour is not so cool?
Oh, I've done a bit of searching on the net, and I've seen several times that there are no mods for consoles.
I've also made myself even more jealous by reading about what PC players can do. I'm a glutton for punishment, me.
I'm up to level 4 now! And more than halfway to level 5. Checking my skills stats, I really really need to concentrate on magic and speechcraft.
I'm just having so much fun rummaging in sewers and killing stuff, that I keep leaving them.

You're absolutely right. After I took that screenshot and looked at all the clothes in the mod, I uninstalled it.
The PC version has a console which allows you to interact with the game (and potentially hose the game). I had to use it once as a quest would not advance. We had to clear an area of enemies, which I did, but the NPC kept thinking we weren't done. So I told the game to advance to the "done" journal entry, and on we went. That's also how I hacked my character into the current one. It's not perfect tho, I didn't get the racial skills I was supposed to get if you started a new game, so I'm now a Breton that looks like a Corean.
You had mentioned that you had seen the Oblivion gate at Kvatch. I would advise you to do that quest now, as well as the Castle Kvatch optional quest. Minor Spoiler ahead.

The game will level your enemies to your level by modifily the type and number. You will have help in these quests, but your help is NOT leveled. So if you do it at Level 1, you have a few low level enemies. If you do it at level 12 like I did, you have lots of really nasty enemies. As your help is still level 1, they are dead in seconds and all the baddies will turn on you. The Castle Kvatch quest was a nightmare. At one section I just ran past the enemies to get to the next part as there were >20 enemies.

The uniform doesn't seem to fit in with Cyrodiil, does it?

Yes, I've read that doing stuff your game can potentially damage it.
I wonder what the problem was with the quest - is it a known glitch?

Thank you for the hints, Madoka. I decided to take your advice, and today I started the Oblivion Gate closure at Kvatch.
But

Argh! It was difficult. That Churl guy came back even after I thought I'd killed him, and he has loads of health.
I got the key, and I thought I'd closed the gate. I returned to the Gold Coast (?) happy...only to find warriors, and now I have to help them clear some place and rescue some people. But, there's these creatures I haven't seen before, and lots of them, and they are hard.
I got killed about 3 times, before I gave up for the day. Also, I used all 16 or so of my Welkind Stones to replenish my magicka, and now I'm left with no potions to recover health, I have to rely on waiting fo my magicka to come back up.

I don't think so. The first time I did it, it was ok. I decided to try it again to keep my NPCs alive and I got the error. Since I had done it once, I knew that the quest should have advanced.

It seems you were successful closing the Oblivion Gate. I think you are at the part where you are trying to help Savlian clear out the Daedra in the plaza in front of the chapel so the survivors inside can be rescued.
I have read that that part can be very hard even at Level 5. Your companions are probably not very helpful. You are probably facing Stunted Scamps and Clanfear Runts (dinosaur like Daedra). They are weak to shock spells. I am assuming that your character is played like a mage. I think that can be tough in this battle. I went in and attacked the enemies attacking my men. This kept me alive as they were busy attacking my men, and it helped keep them alive. Did you see any Flame Atronachs? They shoot fireballs. Use frost spells and cast flame resistance. Savlin cannot die; he will just go unconscious for a few seconds. Keep moving and use ranged spells, if possible, if you can't take damage like a fighter. I took Madoka in there and traded blows and blocked. A lot.
New Armor: Dark Illusion
As my character is a heavy armor specialist, I can really use the last two versions. These armors were hard to get, as they were currently being used. The 2 Assassins were experts in Marksman and would knock you down with a hit sometimes. The 2 Crusaders hit really hard and were insanely fast, and the Knight of Nox casts a Weakness to Shock spell followed by hits from an Ebony Claymore enchanted with a Shock on Strike spell. Needless to say, I died many, many times....

I don't remember flame-throwers. When I went back to the game today, I found I had a save after I had closed the gate, but before accepting the other challenge. So I was wimpy and declined.
My character is quite physically tough - Redguard. I have a high resistance to disease and poison (75 score on both). I caught Rockjoint in the sewers before I did the Oblivion gate quest, and I feel quite pleased I did it even with Rockjoint draining my agility by 10 points. I got healed at a Wayshrine tonight.
I have a 50 point bonus to my magicka, as my birthsign is The Mage. But really, my character is a fighter, I think.
I am now a level 5, and my enemies seem to have a lot more health. I wonder if I have turned up my difficulty bar too much, too.
Eek, Assassins and Crusaders sound awful! The worst enemy I've had so far (apart from Churl) is probably those flying things....er, imps? Sometimes I try to run away, but they often follow for ages.
I have some decent spells, like electric touch, cold touch, summon skeleton etc, but my magicka seems to deplete extremely quickly.
Re: your "glitch" - I just wondered if it was a known bug you had, but I was wrong.
Woah, very very nice pictures again. I love the action shots, especially.

Ah, you're right. As a Redguard, you'd make a great fighter. I'm not surprised that you were able to close the gate with Rockjoint. I hate getting diseases. I fireball rats from afar for that very reason.
What is your main weapon and armor? Now that you are level 5, the enemies will have more hit points. You may need something that hits harder. You could try putting the difficulty bar back at the default position. That's one nice thing about the game; you can adjust it on the fly. As you can summon skeletons, they could help with the Kvatch quest. Anything that distracts the enemy is good, I think.
The leveling of enemies and loot aspect is one thing I don't really like. When I play RPGs, I want to feel that my chrarcter is getting better. That rat that gave me trouble at level 1 should not at level 5. The troll I meet at level one should kill me with one shot and not be dumbed down to my level. There were players that started a new game and became the Arena champion at level one! I can guarantee you that Maximus is not level one!! When you get to a level where Dwarven armor becomes more common, you'll find that all the bandits have it too because they are now at your level. It a bit silly to see a group of bandits decked out in full sets of glass armor. Mind you, I still think Oblivion is a great game. It's just this aspect I don't really enjoy. [So I modded it out. ]

And you were right to wonder if there was a glitch with the game. I read that even with the 1.2 patch, there are over 1100 bugs. Some guys put out an Unofficial Oblivion 1.2 bug patch that fixes them.
Glad you enjoyed the screens. I'll stop before this becomes an Oblivion Screenshot thread.

Aw Madoka, I've been enjoying all the screenshots, but I hear ya.
Main weapon - usually a steel longsword, I think. I recently started using a steel shield as well, as my enemies are stronger.
If I know there's going to be hard enemies (like when I lurk in caves etc), I'll sometimes put on my magical items, like Cuirass Of The Chameleon, my detect life helmet and my boots that make me go quicker (sorry I can't remember names). Also my Base Ring Of Light for if I need two hands in the dark.
I haven't come across any Dwarven armour yet.
Fireballing rats is good - I only prefer to slash them as my magicka is so easily drained, and I'd rather keep it for bigger enemies.

Blocking is very useful in Oblivion, unlike that random mess in Morrowind. In fact, I never use two handed weapons because I'd rather block with a shield. I can usually get in 2 hits when the enemy recoils from a block. Attacking archers is also easier with a shield. When they fire, if I can't avoid it, I let the arrow hit the shield then run up to the archer and start bashing. They will switch to a melee weapon, at which point they are outmatched.
I just found some new armors and have the urge to post more screenies.... Well, I have to get them first. They may be currently used like the Dark Illusion armors. The things I do for fashion.

Yeah Madoka, I've been blocking a lot lately. I hadn't realized how useful it was until I tried it.
I'd love some more screenies...*hint hint*
Omg, today I was playing and my game totally froze. I was trying to get to a cave for a mission, when the screen froze, and my machine had to be turned off as it wouldn't respond to any button-pressing.
I save a lot, so I hadn't lost any important data. I put the machine back on, loaded my save, tried to get to the cave again and the exact same thing happened. Grrrrr.
So, I try yet again - this time taking a different approach to the cave, and it worked fine. Except I caught Greenspore in the cave off a zombie. And I can't do the quest anyway, I found, until I'm better at some things.
I'm starting again and not bothering with the cave next time. Yay.
And - is no one else lurking here in the games thread? AD and Stevie - are you still reading?
I wanna know what's happening with FFX and Devil May Cry 4.
