really? I think guys put on a front that they prefer ditzy girls because they are "easier". But in reality, the brainier ones are the ones that makes "the pursuit" just as satisfying as "the capture".

I think it's the capture I want to optimize. The pursuit operation can be applied generically.

Who is "signore giovani"? Is that a euphemism for Mr. Happy?

I thought you meant "Signore Giovanni" (Mr. Giovanni)
you know, maybe used as a euphemism, like "ouch, your car keys are crushing my John Thomas/Signore Giovanni", roll over a bit."

Something like that.

Not intimidating at all. A really fun person to be with and to work with. I wish I had hooked up with her, but she was already spoken for (the guy was a loser--consensus opinion)... That's the breaks. Sad

Are'? I thought this is a Shinsengumi thread? hehe...I guess....Shinsengumi is not that popular yet ne...^_^ I think SHINSENGUMI ROCKS!!!^o^ I love it soooo much!! I taped it evry week, and for evry episode...I can watch like 3-5 times...sometimes more than 5 times...haha...I dunno why...the scenes and dialogues are just really interesting to me...^-^

Okay, gotta admit...that I'm a HUGE fan of Shingo Katori...why, I watch this taiga drama in the first place... But actually, I, myself, is one of those who usually cannot enjoy samurai dramas.... Its strange, coz I like Chinese ancient drama serials....but, somehow samurai dramas for me are boring.... Then, I realized, Chinese ancient serials I like are adapted from fiction novels ones....while, samurai dramas I've watched are all boring historical stuff......and I think it is rare to find samurai dramas with fiction story.

Well....most likely, actually, I've only watched Kimura's Chuusingura and Oda Nobunaga x) While, I expect something good, turns out I really didnt enjoy those two...even with Kimura in it..I dunno.....I think Chuusingura is just too dark....too serious.....and not much of a happening. Its a popular historical story...but, I'm not interested....
Another samurai dramas I've watched are NHK's last years' Toshiie to Matsu(all-stars casts!!) and Musashi.....Toshiie for only abt 3 eps.....and Musashi also only for few eps. Musashi's novel is sooo popular....so I expect something good....but, still I'm not interested.... So, I really dont know......or is it because its hard to understand the language? Well, samurai era language is different.... Or maybe, bcoz no good fights? I always enjoyed kungfu moves.....but, I never enjoy samurai moves x)

Anyway, so I've decided that I dont like samurai dramas.....or can never enjoy samurai dramas.... However, I enjoyed Samurai X aka Rurouni Kenshin the anime!^^ Well...mebbe bcoz its comical and the story is just intriguing.....I wonder why cant any samurai dramas are like this...light-hearted, not too serious and have such an intriguing story.

Anyway....when last July, I got the news, "Shingo is going to act in NHK's next year samurai drama!". I was like, "Eeeeehhhhhhhhhh?!?!?!?!? Nande, doushite, nande??? Why is it have to be a samurai drama?? And for the whole year? Yadaaa....!!!" x) I want Shingo in a modern drama! Normal drama! Romantic! Or action! Definitely not a samurai drama!
I'd reeeaaally like to see Shingo in his new project.....but if its a samurai drama, I might fall asleep watching it!O_O

Nevertheless....I've started subscribing to NHK since last December...
Then....I get to see Shinsengumi's previews, trailers, behind the scenes, casts interview, etc in NHK. And I was stunned.....ehh, I really think this is omoshiroi?! There are sooo many funny scenes, more than I expected!!!!^o^

Then I got to watch the eps.....hontou ni omoshiroi! Despite it being a edo drama, it is not done with the same heavy handedness commonly associated with edo drama production. Watching it is like watching a fuji terebi modern drama. The story is easy to follow and the lines are easy to understand as well as there is an overall modern touch in everything from the actor's body language, the sets and the lines constructions.

The men of the group are also interesting various characters...and even they have their own positions in the group......but they act like bestfriends. Isami Kondou[Shingo Katori] never see and treat them as subordinates, but more as fighting partners and reallife bestfriends. One of the reasons, is because some of them already grow up together in a dojo named Shieikan, before they join forces as Shinsengumi. Not to mention, most of them played by popular young handsome and kakkoi actors!!!^-^

So there you go...a drama about a dedication to the nation, friendship, love and we also have comical moments, action and touching moments sets in the Edo period. All-in-one!^^ What makes me interested the most is of course the comical elements of this drama...which I dont expected at all! And I loooove it! This is the first time I ever seen a light-hearted and fun samurai drama. Just realized the scriptwriter is Mitani Koki! Also the writer for HR.....so a Mitani-Katori duet.....of course quite identic with 'comedy' deshou?^^ Yes, I think for Shingo himself, is identic with 'comedian'...^^ No wonder its such a light-hearted samurai drama and I'm glad. Althou, quite strange, coz turns out that the comical scenes are mostly comes from the supporting characters...Shingo himself got quite a serious & boring role x)

but I guess...people have their own tastes ne ^_^ From posts in this thread...and some comments from others who have watched the show...I assumed that its EITHER YOU LOVE IT....OR YOU HATE SHINSENGUMI...I guess, no way, in between x)

Tonikaku....I'm really looking forward more to this show....!!!^-^ Esp. would like to see YUUKA!! She's one of my most fave actress, ever since Love Story. Where is she?! It is said, that she's the leading female in Shinsengumi....but its already 12 eps...and she has not show up yet?? Its start to get on my nerve!! x(

Please!! Visit my "SHINSENGUMI WAR ZONE !!!" website on: http://nhkshinsengumi.tripod.com/
It has -behind the scenes- snapshots, detailed synopsis, characters introduction, official books infos and more! Onegaishimasu!!^.^

I was reading the entirety of your narrative, just saying "amen, sistah, amen," (well, 'cept for the parts where you showed ya'll love for Katori Shingo, A.K.A. "The Shingo Mama"; I think he's a good actor, but I'll only go that far) . . . then, I get to the end . . . and find out, ya'll's the creator of "Shinsengumi War Zone."

God bless you, sistah; and keep on w/ya'll's "Shinsengumi War Zone." It is a great thing. We be watching in Hawai'i, roger d'at!

P.S. come check out our developing "S H I N S E N G U M I" thread o'd'ere too, OK?

Would like to share some pictures here ^-^

Isami Kondou[Shingo Katori], The Commander of Shinsengumi
Got some issues with his status....born in a farmer class, not as a samurai...many underestimate him as a samurai...even his own foster mother hate him.

Toshizou Hijikata[Kouji Yamamoto], The Vice Commander
Such a lady-killer!!^^ His favorite thing is woman... Before he enter Shieikan dojo, he's a lazy person...but later after he become the vice commander in Shinsengumi...he became a strict and vicsious guy!

- Hajime Saitou[Joe Odagiri], The 3rd Regime Captain
Such a quiet samurai! Icy and cool... He licks his sword, before he start the duel....

-Souji Okita[Tatsuya Fujiwara], The 1st Regime Captain
The youngest, yet the strongest samurai in Shinsengumi! Ignorant and mischevious^^

-Sanosuke Harada[Taro Yamamoto], The 10th Regime Captain
A loud and funny person!! He always feels hungry, thus we can see him eating in almost evry scene...x) Such a lazy, lazy guy! His weapon is not sword...the only Shinsengumi member who use spear as weapon.

-Shinsengumi!!

Anoo...what's that suppose to mean? You despise Shingo-kun? Or, u mean...that I'm biased about this show...?
Haha....i got the feeling everybody in this thread hate Shingo, ne...^_^;;;

For you information....I'm not a biased person...I'm not those fans that would just go rave and like nothing go wrong with my ichiban's projects.. I've seen a Shingo 1996 dorama, entitled DOKU. And it bored me to tears!!~_~ I fell asleep in almost evry episode....not interesting at all to me! x) And I admit....that most of Shingo dramas are not as high-quality as the other Smap members....KimuraTakuya's and KusanagiTsuyoshi's dramas&movies. Most of Shingo dramas are just so-so....the only Shingo drama I considered SUPERB is Hito ni Yasashiku(Basically Nice/Be Nice To People). Shinsengumi is right next to it^^

So...no, I dont love Shinsengumi, just bcoz Shingo's in it. But I really love the overall production!!!^.^

Hmm...would u watch Musashi in the first place, if ur Ryoko-chan's not in it?^_^;;

Gomen... IMO, I think the show is more about star/boy-power rather than the story itself... And as others have mentioned, the series doesn't appear to be serious enough for a historical drama. That's why I lost interest...

Actually, I didn't even know who Ryoko-chan was before I started watching Musashi... I was interested in Musashi's story first and foremost... Discovering Ryoko-chan was just pure luck, which I am quite happy about... Big Grin
