I finally got my port-forwarding sorted out, but then Azureus wouldn't work. Just getting errors when I tried to download a torrent. Turns out it was a Winsock problem... downloaded winsockxpfix, ran it and viola! it works!

I used to be a faithful user of Azureus and a couple of months back I finally switched to Utorrent....Azureus always gobbled up sooooo much RAM even though I always had the latest version of it and the latest version of JAVA....
The more torrents I had running the more RAM Azureus would utilize and it would always slowly use more and more RAM until I would have to free up some RAM with a little utility I have....
...with Utorrent I could have 10 torrents running at the same time and it never uses more than say 15MB of RAM.
Japan has decided to beat France and the United Kingdom (both who have similar proposals) to become the first country to ban file sharers from the internet.
Oddly the agreement to do so has not come from the Japanese Government, but from Japanfs four internet service provider organizations after pressure (not surprisingly) from the record and movie industries. According to Torrent Freak, the agreement would see copyright holders tracking down file-sharers on the Internet using gspecial detection softwareh and then notifying ISPs of alleged infringers. File sharers will initially receive a warning for a first offense, then be disconnected for subsequent offenses, eventually be disconnected from the internet permanently (it wasnft clear whether the agreement is a three strikes proposal).
The process will formally commence in April and will primarily target users of Winny, the most popular file sharing network in Japan.

I have been using utorrent at work, mainly because you can set it up as part of the Portable Apps suite and run it off a thumb drive (or even a SD card, if you want) and it seems to be fine.
I've also set up a PHP script that works as a bit torrent client: You set it up on a remote server somewhere, and log in to it, and it will download torrents to the server it's set up on. Then you can just download the file like a normal download, by FTP, whatever. I just need a large bit of server space to set it up on

it's a much "lighter" program than Azureus...the only thing I liked about Azureus was the interface but the software has gotten far too bloated especially with VUZE....that is just crap upon crap.

Is there that big a difference between torrent programs?
I've been using Bittornado from the get-go...
I'm sure you're fine....some ppl say that certain programs provide quicker downloads but I've not noticed a difference but I've only used Azureus and Utorrent....Azureus eats up massive amounts of resources...much more than the other torrent clients. I finally got sick of it....I only have 512MB of RAM so it does make a difference in my particular case...

I tried using Azureus at the beginning, but I couldn't get it to work.

Good thing, I guess.
Azureus is a resource hog....I'm sure BitTornado is better client for you...especially since you, like most of us, just want something straightforward....

Viva Utorrent!
612kb/s is excellent... I've never managed that here, probably because I can't set up port forwarding.

Here's a story...
I use an FTP service to d/l dramas...He charges 6 bucks a month for this & he's usually very compliant and fast and up to date on his servers...I d/l the files via a FTP client at about 700-800 kBps...
But recently 3 .avi files I d/loaded from the service were corrupted...unplayable by any video player...so, rather than ask him again to d/l those files...
I tried something different... a BT d/l, but not using my usual utorrent...
Opera v9.5.1 has a built-in BT client...I gave it a shot...the results were amazing...3 drama eps totaling 1.2 GB d/loaded in less than an hour...sustained d/l rates at 4.5 mBps... upload 120 kBps
My ISP is Comcast cable...they just dont have this kind of speed up or down...
