Started watching Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan with Nishida Toshiyuki...he's awesome as usual...anybody who's seen him in film or TV, will know what I'm referring too. Highly recommended drama set in old world Tokyo...shitomachi (downtown) to be exact.
I watched it when it was on channel 44. Nishida is great, but it's one of those dramas that doesn't have a real plot from beginning to end, every episode is a different story, I'm not a real big fan of that type. But Nishida is worth watching all by himself.
Edit: Eve: I never noticed the matching ties and hankies, but then again, my idea of fashion is to always make sure I'm wearing the appropriate t-shirt.

The guy is hilarious with a new color "theme" each show, in yellow, bright pinks, and other eye catching shades.
Im sure your tee-shirt look is very sharp, dear. _________________

Yeah it doesn't have a overarching plotline. I, too, prefer dramas with an honest plot progression but Nishida is too good to pass up...moreever, I like dramas that are set in shitomachi (downtown) like Tiger & Dragon and Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan.

I've read good recommendation to watch Yasashii Jikan on previous pages, so yes, I am now watching Yasashii Jikan. I'm on ep 9.
It's such a great dorama - very humane, with good casting, sceneries, theme song, and that forest clock cafe was so interesting-- grinding yr own coffee beans ....
I got this dorama last year from a friend, I wonder why it took me so long to watch such a great dorama ... Anyway thanks for recommendation.

Also watched the first 20 minutes of Koibumi and it seems like a depressing one so far. I'm not really in the mood for depressing, so I wonder why the heck I popped this one in. I guess the title threw me off.
Koibumi is a sad story... but I thought it was, by far, one of the best shows I've seen.
The acting was a major league cut above... and the story was very well told.

Already on epi 9! I'm so jealous! I'm only at epi 5. I have so much other crap going on in life right now that I haven't had much time to watch it. But I totally agree with you about the drama tho. It's so calming! I'm sure it would heal me at the end of this week. _________________

I guess I shall continue it then. Unfortunately, I won't have time until the weekend. Perhaps I should have brought it to work today since I have nothing else to do.. _________________

I think you'll like Koibumi. And I'll bet the Norwegian will love it.
As to Kita no kuni kara (From the North Country). Totally different kind of show. But Jeez-Oh I loved it.
I've also noticed that there are references to it in a bunch of different shows. I guess it's been playing in re-runs for decades in Japan and it's become a part of everyone's shared experience. (Sort of like Star Trek for American kids) So whenever they want to poke fun at something sentimental, they start playing the theme music from Kita no kuni kara, or they have the character start writing a letter to someone in a voice over.
Jokes I never got until I saw the series... but jokes I see almost everywhere now.
If you ever find copies of the follow-up series and specials... holler. I'd love to see those. (They started airing the show in 1981, and they made the last special 3 years ago.) _________________

Hai! I think you told me not to before when you recommended the drama to me, and I think my sub-conscious has your voice ringing about because (and this is rare) I AM taking my time... and I'm glad I am. There's a certain excitement that creeps up when I'm about to watch another episode, and I'm sure it stems from having a short break between each. Each time the excitement is renewed.
This really IS a great drama! Arigato gozaimasu! _________________

Well done, my dear!!
It makes me happy every time someone enjoys Yasashii.
Watching it is a special experience. _________________

I'll be on the hunt for them. Have you seen all 24 eps of the original series?
As for Koibumi. I think that is coming off the shelf to be watched soon. _________________
