I didn't read any of the previous posts, so forgive me if this has been answered, but how, on a PC, do you configure your wireless hub? Like how do you set a password and stuff to it? The one I have is U-Link.

Help! I can't get online with my laptop. Sad I usually use a wireless internet connection with it, but I can't find that on my list of wireless networks to connect on.

I'm wondering if this has to do with jumping onto someone's internet connection at work the other day. I was able to go online and download a large file, but yesterday and today when I tried going online at home, I can't connect at all. Sad
I'm assuming that the other day you used your laptop with the other person's internet connection. Since you're able to connect hard-wired, the internet signal is o.k., best guess is that something got changed on your settings on your laptop when you used the other internet connection. Try and remember if you made any changes to use their connection.

No, I just found the internet network and logged on without doing anything special. I still haven't tried checking on the wireless hub like beem suggested. Wouldn't that just be like me if that were the problem? Beaten

Well, I checked the plugs and everything and still nothing.

I did notice that when I checked the properties for my wireless connection that it's set automatically to use my wireless router to go online, but it doesn't show up when you have to "choose a wireless network". Grumble

I've jumped onto other people's wireless connections in the past and this has never happened before. I wonder what happened this time. Sweat

I'd say try pulling the power on your router for a few seconds and then plugging it back in. A possible reboot of your laptop may be required as well. If that doesn't work, remove that network altogether within your Wireless Networks settings. It will get replaced when you to connect to it again.

Those are a few things I try whenever that happens to me. And it's happened a few times before Bang Head

I tried pulling the power on my router, but that didn't work.

And "reboot" the laptop? Meaning, redo Windows and all that?? I hope not because I have a lot of stuff on my laptop and it will take a while to back everthing up. Sweat

I'm a little reluctant to try the third option because my router requires a password to be able to access it and hell if I can remember what the heck that is. >_< Maybe I should try it anyway and pray that my laptop will retain that password somehow...

You could try doing a system restore back to a time prior to when you used that other internet connection and see if that brings everything back.

Lost in the move.

I haven't done major things on a PC for years, but I guess I could sit a while with one and figure it out, since no one here seems to have any suggestions. Pout

Now I just have to find myself a PC. Beaten I'll have to wait until bro goes home.

Is it just a hub or is it also a router? On my wireless router, it has an IP address on the LAN, so I type that address into IE and the configuration window opens up. There I can set the PW, change ports, etc.

It's a router. Thank you! I looked up when you said and found this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesssetup.mspx#step3

I haven't checked it out yet cause the router is attached to bro's computer, but I think this is what I was looking for.

Arigato gozaimasu!

You have windows right? If so,

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on All Programs.
3. Go to Accessories.
4. Under Accessories, click on System Tools
5. There you should see System Restore. Click it.
6. Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time."
7. Pick a date prior to your disturbance.
8. When it processes, restart your computer.

Everything should be fine then.

Ha by reboot I just meant restart it, but I assume by now it's probably been done at least once.

If you were to delete it, you computer would definitely not remember the password unfortunately. So if you can't remember it, I'd advise against it.

I say don't listen to me and do the system restore Beaten

And I should be able to do it. I get the PC in 10 minutes. The only thing, my bro uses Vista, so I hope the instructions are compatible. I'll post my success/frustrations shortly.
