, but it was by no means boring. I was interested by the story during its entire duration. I felt Tanaka Rena was very good but Chen Bo-Lin, though not bad, probably could have done a bit more with his role. The review on imdb is pretty much spot-on. I thought the ending was pretty good.
Pretty good movie. Rena Tanaka gave a great performance.

Just watched Hotai Club, the one with Ishihara Satomi. Did anyone see it? I liked it a lot. It's mainly about being hurt, healing, and trying to understand. It handled the subjects sensitively, was heartwarming in parts, and there were touching moments too. I thought they could have explored more about the effects/consequences of Hotai Club's actions... or maybe it's just about what 2 hours allows... Both the leads were very good, although to me Yuya Yugira stood out, partially due to the nature of his character. He was the kid who won best actor at Cannes a few years ago for Nobody Knows. Looking forward to seeing him in more movies/jdoramas. It's vastly underrated at imdb IMHO, probably close to a 9 for me. A good movie for those who want to help/change but can't quite take the step. Recommended.

GENE SIMMONS In Japanese Movie
KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has posted the following message on http://www.genesimmons.com his web site: "The famous Japanese Manga comic book DMC is being made into a movie by Toho/Sony. Toho Productions are the fine people who brought you 'Godzilla' and 'The Mysterians'...as well as countless other Japanese movies. "I was thrilled to be asked to play the Demon God of rock and roll \ what else? Shooting was from dawn 'till late at night. The shoot took place right after the New Zealand KISS show. I got to sleep at 2:00 am and got up 4:30 am to catch the 7:00 am flight to Tokyo. "Hectic. "Once there, I not only had to shoot the Japanese movie (which is being released in August \ only in Japan), our 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' TV crew were also there to record some of the fun and games. "Here is yours truly in a real Geisha House. And, here is what I look like in one of my get ups in the movie. You'll see the results in a future 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' episode."

I went to the Japan Film Festival earlier this evening....we saw the film Maiko Haaan!....it was absolutely one of the funniest films I've seen in the last year or TWO...superbly funny, in fact....the host of actors from Sadao Abe, Shinichi Tsutumi, Kou Shibasaki to Shiro Ito were fantastic. I can unequivocally recommend this film as one of the best films of 2007. Everybody during the screening was literally laughing out loud. If you enjoy Japanese comedy, this film is not to be missed.

LOL, this guy looks like Japan's answer to Moe Howard of the Three Stooges...
Yeah that precious bowl cut! That actor Sadao Abe was absolutely hysterical. Everybody in theater at the Japan Film Festival was laughing aloud for the entire duration of the film, as I said. It was definitely worth the price of admission and then some. Highly, highly recommended.

I hope I can get this one ... subbed - Japanese movies are not so easy to get here.
